MIAMI, FL (18 de mayo, 2015) - ChocQuibTown regresa al panorama musical con su nuevo ?lbum de estudio El Mismo. 13 canciones componen esta producci?n que lleva la esencia de estos tres chocoanos que hoy le pertenecen a Colombia y al mundo.
Bajo la producci?n de Andr?s Castro, ilustre m?sico galardonado por la industria discogr?fica con GRAMMYs, Billboard y por ?xitos latinos de artistas como: Carlos Vives, Kany Garc?a, Carlos Baute y Prince Royce, entre muchos otros. Junto a Castro, la mente detr?s de beat es, Slow Mike; la co-producci?n es de Goyo y Tostao. La mezcla fue hecha por Curt Schneider y la masterizaci?n Tom Coyne en los estudios de Groove Studio en Miami y Slow Records.
Con 'El Mismo' se conmemoran sus 15 a?os como banda; es el quinto CD de estudio con material in?dito; lleva el crecimiento musical y la evidencia intr?nseca de su carrera.
Para su productor de cabecera ?ndres Castro: "A veces es dif?cil encontrar un artista que tenga la combinaci?n de sabor, de carisma, de inteligencia y de actitud en el escenario... Yo me siento muy privilegiado de no tener uno, sino tres... son uno mejor que el otro. ?ste disco para m?, es un disco urbano, que tiene todas las partes del sentimiento urbano... tiene canciones rom?nticas, que es lo novedoso dentro del mismo sonido urbano... y lo descubrimos en el camino. 1- El Mismo
Es una canci?n que musicalmente est? proponiendo much?simas cosas, sus arreglos de viento llevan al rock & roll y al swing de aquella ?poca. En la letra se relatan vivencias de quienes han sufrido el rechazo o los se?alamientos por el color de su piel o por su raza, y siempre han sido llamados como el "prieto", "el negro" y es as? como siempre le echan la culpa al "el mismo". La canci?n cuenta con una letra bien fuerte, pero que al ser escuchada, tiene una atm?sfera sonora muy interesante, esta es una de las canciones que va a gustar much?simo, puro flow, ChocQuibTown.
2-Cuando Te Veo
Es una poes?a hecha canci?n, muy descriptiva, que cuenta o que narra, lo que un individuo siente cuando ve a esa persona que le despierta sentimientos bonitos, es el primer sencillo del ?lbum. Es una forma muy especial de arrancar con toda la historia de ?ste disco "EL MISMO". Muestra un ChocQuibTown que la gente no est? acostumbrada a ver y sorprender?, ya que la agrupaci?n se dej? llevar por los que sentimos en el momento de hacer una canci?n de ese corte, que habla de amor y reflejar lo que es ChocQuibTown en la m?sica y lo que tambi?n piensan como personas.
3-Nadie Dijo
Es una canci?n que comenz? como algo experimental, es la primera vez que llevan la chirim?a y la vacilan completamente con m?sica electr?nica, del dance y donde la clave del bombo siempre es negra. Fue un total reto, porque poner todo esto... lo tradicional... en todo este sonido moderno y con todos estos sintetizadores y con toda esta cadencia de la m?sica electr?nica, fue algo de orgullo y fue algo muy bonito para la agrupaci?n, chequeenselo, "nadie dijo", mucho sonido. ChocQuibTown.
4-Desde El D?a Que Te Fuiste
Es una balada bien "power rock" ah? en su esencia. Se le incluyeron instrumentos como la marimba, tambora y redoblante cosas que son t?picas en el sonido de ChocQuibTown. Es la primera canci?n, en m?s de 15 a?os de trabajo de ChocQuibTown, que habla del desamor. Va a llegar muy bien al p?blico porque se muestra algo totalmente diferente a lo que hab?an escuchado de ChocQuibTown antes.
5-El Arriendo
El arriendo es una canci?n muy divertida, que se asemeja mucho al sonido de la champeta. En ella los m?sicos rapean, cantan, hablan del biche, una bebida t?pica del Choc?... y tambi?n es una historia bastante c?mica, porque es la situaci?n de una persona que no paga el arriendo, prefiere irse de rumba y m?s bien se queda en la calle!. Esta canci?n en vivo va a ser la locura.
6-Salsa y Choke
Salsa y Choke, es un fen?meno que desde el momento en que la Selecci?n Colombia llego al mundial con los goles que anotaban y la forma en que bailaban se fue posicionando. La agrupaci?n tuvo la experiencia de subirse a varios aviones en ese periodo de tiempo mientras hac?an el disco y muchos extranjeros dec?an, "eso es salsa choke", y ellos pensaron en hacer una canci?n al estilo ChocQuibTown, con marimba y con muchos elementos del pacifico, pero bien enfocado a la salsa o a la salsa urbana como se conoce tambi?n. Es por esta raz?n que naci?n este track. El coro va directo al nombre del genero por llamarlo as?, "salsa y choke", la canci?n dice as?, "y dime lo que quieres, salsa y choke". ChocQuibTown invit? a ?ejo que es un gran interprete puertorrique?o del sonido urbano, tambi?n salsero, le gusta este sonido, todo con la finalidad de dar un espaldarazo a este movimiento que se origina en el pacifico colombiano por las zonas de Tumaco y viene abri?ndose paso no solo en Colombia sino tambi?n en el mundo, con una fusi?n de m?sica del pacifico, m?sica urbana y salsa, "SALSA Y CHOKE".
7-No Te Espero M?s
Es inspirada en una frase de Cuco Valoy " Te fuiste pa Nueva York con tu visa de paseo" en la canci?n Juliana". Para este tema, la agrupaci?n evoc? el momento en el que el hombre la est? esperando todav?a, que ella vuelva de Nueva York, he hicieron una canci?n en la que si esta persona se revelara, dijera "No Te Espero M?s" y montaron una canci?n bien rumbera, con acordeones, bien discotequera como que caracter?stica de la m?sica de ChocQuibTown y ha gustado mucho. En un principio se pens? que no iba a estar en el ?lbum, pero Sabba, la hija de GOYO y TOSTAO siempre que sonaba la disfrutaba y cuando la paraban se pon?a a llorar entonces decidieron recibirlo como un mensaje divino, y qued? en el disco y aqu? est?, en "EL MISMO".
8-Una Raza Llamada Sabor
Es una canci?n que es bien especial, porque es la primera vez que en un ?lbum de la agrupaci?n se usa el clarinete. Es una canci?n que se hizo despu?s de que el ?lbum ya estaba cerrado, en primera instancia se ten?an 10 tracks y despu?s se incluyeron 3 m?s. Es una canci?n que describe la humanidad como una raza llena de sabor, que no tiene nada que ver con el color de piel o el estrato socioecon?mico, ni la clase ni nada de eso, sino que en general los seres humanos son un gran combo lleno de sabor, as? como su Fanbase, que se llama Chocquibnation.
9-T?
Es una de las canciones donde Slow Mike, muestra mucho lo que es ?l y de lo que est? hecho. Generalmente los fans no est?n acostumbrados a escuchar a Slow cantando tanto en una canci?n y los fan?ticos se van a sorprender muchos y van a conocer el potencial que Slow tiene.
10-Ritmo Violento
Es una canci?n que suena bastante "rude". El nombre no tiene nada que ver con la violencia de la regi?n pacifica colombiana. A lo que se refiere con este t?tulo es a que cuando los chocoanos se van a referir que algo est? bueno o que algo est? ch?vere lo denominan "violento". "Ritmo Violento" es una canci?n que musicalmente est? aportando much?simo y est? d?ndole al p?blico, a esa persona que escucha su m?sica, esa ra?z de ChocQuibTown y est? compuesta b?sicamente con muchos ritmos tradicionales de la costa pac?fica. La agrupaci?n aclara que "no somos violentos, no nos gusta hacer apolog?a a la violencia, somos tranquilos, somos pac?ficos".
11- Nuqu? (Te Quiero Para M?)
Es una canci?n que relata una historia de dos personas nacidas en Nuqu?, su atm?sfera sonora tiene la marimba adornando por todos los rincones la canci?n y la musicalidad es absoluta, como se ve en el Choc? que es la tan llamada triada de la chirim?a. Hay muchas an?cdotas en esta canci?n.
12-Fiesta Animal
Es bien orientado al sonido del dance o del raggaemove, la m?sica jamaiquina con elementos de la m?sica tradicional colombiana y habla de la rumba, pero en esta ocasi?n habla de la rumba un poco m?s atrevida. Dentro de elementos nuevos que incluyen esta canci?n fue invitar a NOTCH, uno de los pocos int?rpretes que puede cantar en espa?ol, en ingl?s y en jamaiquino con un acento bien al reggae y fue una canci?n que se escribi? a menos 2 grados cent?grados, en la ciudad Nueva York, cuando la agrupaci?n grababa una parte en Jersey y otra parte en Miami. Ws bien rumbera y con seguridad le va a gustar a todos los seguidores de ChocQuibTown.
13-Nadie Nos Quita Lo Baila?
Es uno de los ?ltimos temas que entro al ?lbum. Es una letra divertid?sima, con un ritmo bien caracter?stico de Chocquibtown, y describe varios momentos utiliza una frase que usa todo el mundo y que puede entrar en cualquier contexto. "Nadie nos quita lo Baila?".

The Fifth Album By The Colombian Group Available Now In The U.S. & Puerto Rico
MIAMI, FL (May 18, 2015) - The new studio album by ChocQuibTown El Mismo (That One) releases today in the United States and Puerto Rico. 13 tracks make up El Mismo, an album that captures the essence of these three Chocoanos (natives from el Choc?, an area of Colombia known for its large Afro-Colombian population), who are citizens of Colombia, citizens of the world.
Andr?s Castro, famed musician who is revered by the recording industry and winner of Latin GRAMMY and Billboard Latin Music Awards, produced the album. Castro has produced hits for artists such as: Carlos Vives, Kany Garcia, Carlos Baute and Prince Royce, among many others. Along with Castro, the mind behind the beats is Slow Mike and the co-production was done by Goyo and Tostao. The album was mixed by Curt Schneider and the mastering was done by Tom Coyne in Groove Studio in Miami and in Slow Records.
El Mismo, their fifth studio album, commemorates the band's 15th year together and contains unreleased material. It embodies their musical growth and is evident of their deep-rooted career.
"Sometimes it's hard to find an artist that has a combination of flavor, charisma, intelligence, and attitude on stage. I feel very privileged to not have one, but three...not one better than the other. This album is for me, an urban album, with an urban feeling...it has romantic songs, which is new within that same urban sound...and we discover it along the way. This urban romantic side mirrored by a profound feeling, tells the whole story they may have as people, as a town and as a country, it is a fundamental part of the album. In addition, it contains a bit of Salsa, because it is part of their musical history. It is accompanied by rhythms of the Pacific, which is their essence, and I think it's one of those great opportunities, to maintain their essence and stay relevant with what's hot today. We like what we hear, because it's a simple album but also complex in terms of time, they don't try to please anyone, they are who they are and that's what makes them even bigger," affirms Castro about CQT and the album's musical evolution.

1-El Mismo (That One)
A song that musically captures many things, its horn arrangements take us back to the rock & roll and swing from that era. The lyrics describe anecdotes about those who have suffered rejection or accusations because of the color of their skin or their race and are always referred to as the "dark one", "the black one" and that's why they always blame "that one". The song's lyrics are heavy but when heard, have a very interesting sound, this is one of the songs you will like very much, it's pure flow, its ChocQuibTown.
2-Cuando Te Veo (When I See You)
Is poetry made into a song, a very descriptive song which narrates what an individual feels when they see the person that arouses beautiful feelings within them. It's the first single. It's a very special way to begin the history of the album "EL MISMO". It showcases a ChocQuibTown that people are not used to seeing. It will surprise people given the group got carried away by what they felt at the time. They made a song that speaks of love and reflects what ChocQuibTown is all about regarding music and as people.
3-Nadie Dijo (Nobody Said)
Is a song that began as somewhat of an experiment, it's the first time they use a "chirim?a" (a type of oboe) and completely immerse themselves in electronic music and dance while using the rhythm of the "bombo" (a type of drum) on a black key. It was a total challenge to fuse all these traditional [sounds] and give it a modern twist with all of the synthesizers and rhythms of electronic music...they were proud of what came of it. Check it out! It has a lot of sound, its ChocQuibTown.
4-Desde El D?a Que Te Fuiste (Since the Day You Left)
In essence, it's a power-rock-type ballad. They added instruments such as the "marimba" (a percussion instrument), a snare drum and dubbed typical ChocQuibTown sounds. It's the first song in over 15 years by ChocQuibTown that speaks of heartbreak. It will resonate very well with people because it's something totally different from anything they've ever heard from ChocQuibTown before.
5-El Arriendo (Rent)
"El Arriendo" is a fun song that closely resembles the "champeta" (a genre of folk music and dance originating in the Atlantic coastal regions of Colombia native to Africans). The group raps, sings, and speak of "biche" (a typical drink native to Choc?). It's also a pretty funny story because it describes a person who rather party than pay rent and ends up on the street! This song when performed live is going to be insane!
6-Salsa y Choke feat. ?ejo
"Salsa y Choke" is a phenomenon that begun getting traction from the moment that Selecci?n Colombia (the country's soccer team) made it to the World Cup as they scored goals and danced. During that time, the group was traveling while recording the album and got to speak to many foreigners about this phenomenon. Then the thought occurred to them to create a song using their style incorporating the "marimba" and many other elements native to the Pacific but focusing on a rather more urban style of Salsa. This is the very reason this track came to be. The chorus mentions the genre "Salsa y Choke" and says, "tell me what you want, salsa and choke". ChocQuibTown invited Puerto Rican artist ?ejo, who is also a Salsa singer, to be on the track given he loves this sound. The end goal was to praise this movement that originated in Colombia's Pacific coast throughout the regions of Tumaco and is making its way not only in Colombia but all over the world...with a fusion of Pacific music, urban music and salsa, "SALSA y CHOKE".
7-No Te Espero M?s (I Won't Wait for You Any Longer)
Is inspired by a phrase from Cuco Valoy, "You left to New York with your tourist visa", from the song "Juliana". For this song, the group fabricated a situation where a man is still waiting for a woman to return from New York, and created a song about that person rebelling and saying, " I won't wait for you any longer ". It's a party/club song with accordions, very typical of ChocQuibTown. At first it was believed it wouldn't make the album, but Sabba, Goyo and Tostao's daughter, loved it and when they would pause it she would cry, so they decided to interpret this as a divine message and put it on the record...and here it is on "EL MISMO".
8-Una Raza Llamada Sabor (A Race Called Flavor)
This is a very special song because it's the first time the group uses the clarinet on an album. They created this song after the album was already done, at first it only had 10 tracks and then 3 more were included. It's a song that describes humanity as a race full of flavor, that has nothing to do with skin color, socioeconomic status, class or anything of the sorts, but one in which human beings are a great combination of flavor, like their fanbase which is called Chocquibnation.
9-T? (You)
This song showcases Slow Mike's talent and what he's accomplished. In general, the fans are not used to listening to Slow singing, the fans will be surprised when they see Slow's potential.
10-Ritmo Violento (Violent Rhythm)
A rather rude song. The name has nothing to do with the violence that occurs in Colombia's Pacific region. It describes how Chocoanos refer to something that they deem good or cool, they describe it as being "violent". " Ritmo Violento " is a great contribution, giving fans and music lovers a glimpse into ChocQuibTown's soul, which fundamentally consists of many traditional rhythms of the Pacific's coast. The group further clarifies, "we are not violent, we don't apologize for violence, we are calm, we are peaceful".
11- Nuqu? (Te Quiero Para M?) [Nuqu? - I Want You for Me]
Is a song that tells the story of two people born in Nuqu?. The "marimba" adorns every inch of the song; it's absolutely musical, as seen in the Choc?, the so-called triad of "chirim?a". There are many anecdotes in this song.
12-Fiesta Animal feat. Notch (Party Animal)
It's a dance track originating from the "raggaemove" movement, Jamaican music meshed with elements of traditional Colombian music, and talks about partying in a very provocative way. Inviting NOTCH to be part of the song was a new element within itself as he is one of the few artists who can sing in Spanish, English and Jamaican Patois. The song that was written in minus 2 degrees Celsius in the New York and part of it was recorded in Jersey and the other part in Miami. It's a party song and for sure ChocQuibTown's fans will like it.
