|
ANGAZA PRODUCTIONS presents A Rare NYC Appearance! SULE GREG WILSON in "Ancestral Anthems" and "Tales of Consensual Shenanigans" Friday, May 18th 7:30-9pm African Voices, 270 W. 96th, (Bway & West End) (1, 2, 3 trains or Riverside Dr. to 96th St.) Uplifting and Uproarious - Can you handle both in one evening? Raise your voice in tribute to the ancestors. Then join Sule's song & story journey from Africa to Harlem, from the Amazon to ancient Arabia, Caribbean isles to Zuni pueblos. We'll be singing and signifying all the way! Storytelling is as old as humanity-and so are accounts of the affairs of the heart (and other organs, too!). Before they were kidnapped to these Puritan-occupied shores, the African ancestors enjoyed life in the sun with little clothing, little inhibition, lots of passion and lots of laughs. Come and take your freedom back! LAWDY, LAWDY, IT'S BLACK & BAWDY! Sule Greg Wilson, musician and folklorist, author of The Drummer's Path, performed on last year's Grammy-Award-winning, Genuine Negro Jig. Playing hand drums, shekere, tambo, kazoo, bhodran, mbira, ukulele, body and banjo, he's performed with Taj Mahal, Babatunde Olatunji, The Carolina Chocolate Drops and others. Sule's artistic mission is "Sankofa," reaching into the past to bring its gems into the future. This former NYC resident is a modern Edu-Tainer/American Griot and has spread the word from Ghana to Hawaii, Mexico to Ireland, Mississippi to Minnesota and Juneau to Miami Beach. Adm: $20 (cash) Space is limited RSVP to angazaproductions@gmail.com
