DR BOWLBY IN CONCERT SUNDAY

Christopher Bowlby, pianistPlease express your support for Dr. Christopher Bowlby as he performs a recital entitled, "Dance and Poetry -- the Music of Frdric Chopin." In this program, Dr. Bowlby performs Waltzes, Mazurkas, Polonaises, the four heroic Ballades, plus other lesser known works by Chopin.

The concert takes place in the auditorium of the Frye Art Museum this Sunday, March 6 at 3 pm as a part of the SIPF's "Music from Afar..." concert series. Tickets are $20, $15 for students and seniors.

Coming to your teacher's concert is worth 1,000 times more than the 100 most expensive boxes of chocolates! See you there...

ROMANTIC FESTIVAL

All day, March 26, the SIPF presents the first of two spring festivals for local pianists and chamber musicians, the Romantic Festival. Taking place at Sherman Clay in Seattle, this friendly festival has narrowly defined age categories, allowing many opportunities for the benefit of its participants. Many of you are preparing for this festival now.

Mark Clinton, guest adjudicatorOn the following day (March 27), all ambitious and advanced students should consider playing for Dr. Mark Clinton, one of the festival's two guest judges, in a masterclass at the Chopin Academy. Dr. Clinton is Professor of Piano at the University of Nebraska and a world-renowned pianist with superb technique, quick wit, and great energy, not to mention a sense of humor. Chopin Academy of Music is the only place in the state of Washington where young students have the opportunity to play for such renowned professors of university-level training. Don't miss it if you are ambitious and serious!

Please also note the deadline for applying for the Romantic Festival, which approaches quickly. Please postmark your applications by March 7 (and don't forget to have your teachers sign where appropriate).

MARCH 16 CLOSURE

Note that there is no regular lesson on Wednesday, March 16. Please ask your instructor if you have a lesson that day (this would be used as a make-up lesson...but double check with your instructor regarding the time; make-up lessons are almost always at a different time than your regular lesson).

MEET OUR NEWEST INSTRUCTOR

Laura JeonWe are pleased to introduce our newest faculty member, Laura Jeon, a doctoral candidate at the University of Washington. Ms. Jeon is an expert in the methodology of relaxed body technique, using the ideas of Body Map, which is based on the theory that the physical gestures of our body are strictly related to musical results. Ms. Jeon has also a Theory Certificate, which makes her a very versatile faculty member.

DR. KAMINSKA AND MR. VESELINOVIC IN CONCERT

Ivona Kaminska, pianistHear Dr. Ivona Kaminska as she performs the solo music of Brahms and Schumann, and also collaborates with CAMMiodrag Veselinovic, violin violinist, Mr. Veselinovic performing the first Sonata in A Minor as well as the virtuosic and string-breaking Carmen Fantasy.
