I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you. John 15:15

The other day, as we were on our way to school, my daughter and I heard a story about a young man who was taking over the lawn duty at his home.

His mom was reminiscing about the days when he was young, pushing a bubble mower, wanting to be like Dad.

Now he was almost a man and taking over the lawn care for the family.

As they finished the story, I said to my daughter, “What a privilege. His dad is trusting him to take care of his tools and take care of his lawn. What a privilege that is!”

But in my daughter's 9-year old mindset, she thought, “How can that be a privilege? Aren’t they making him mow the lawn?”

And that got me thinking.

That got me thinking about the kind of mindset we have toward the things we get to do. The things God has entrusted us to do. The things He’s called and gifted us to do. The things God has trusted and privileged us to do.

Do we see them as chores? As bothers? As things we just have to get done?

Or...do we see them as the privileges that they are?

Privileges? Yes!

God, our God, the God of the Universe, our Dad, our friend, has invited us to partner with Him in the family business!

He has invited us to partner with Him in caring for what He cares about and in continuing on the legacy He's started!

Yes, the things God has called us to and gifted us for are not a chore; they’re a privilege!

Yes, it’s a privilege to serve in God’s Kingdom! It’s a privilege to co-labor with our Father! It’s a privilege to use His tools and take care of what He cares about!

And so today, I want to encourage us to see things a little differently. To see them more like God sees them.

To take up the opportunity, take up the privilege, and partner with God in all He wants to do in and through our lives, church, community and nation!

You, my friend, are a privileged child of the King! Privileged to work with Him. Privileged to partner with Him. Privileged to co-labor with Him.

Isn’t it time you started seeing it that way?
