Thanksgiving Greetings from Your Senior Warden
   I want to start off by saying "This is the time of year I find myself reflecting the most on all of the blessings I have to be truly thankful for and want to let you know my church family is one of them!!!!!"
   This year I felt the need to start the season with a Spiritual "boost" to help keep me in a reflective mode and show thanks to God. I did so by attending our Thanksgiving Service, which was Evening Prayer with Music. Although only a few of us attended, the service was most uplifting! The "words" read and sung really impacted me, especially the 2nd Lesson (1 Thessalonians 5:12-24),portions of Psalm 145, The Collect for Thanksgiving BCP pg. 246, A Litany for Thanksgiving pg. 837 , The General Thanksgiving pg. 125 , Hymn #380 and Hymn #390. You will know both hymns. We sing the last verse of Hymn 380 at the Offertory, but singing all 3 verses was extra-special.I invite all of you to open your bible, a prayer book and a hymnal to see if these words "move" you too! Maybe even read all of Evening Prayer, especially if you're not familiar with a Prayer service-it's different and "neat."
   Actually, since I've become a Eucharistic Minister and a Eucharistic Visitor, I am in my prayer book often. It's a pretty awesome book filled with Prayers for every occasion and need, Psalms,Services, an Outline of Faith.....lots of great things!!! If you've never taken the time to see what the Book of Common Prayer has to offer, then I extend that invitation as well.
I finish this writing with the following blessing to you and your families:

Happy Thanksgiving!
Peace and love, Patti
Ecumenical Food Bank
We support the Ecumenical FoodBank located at Grace Lutheran Church, Somers Point, and it has been brought to my attention the FoodBank is in great need of food donations.
It is customary for us to make monetary donations on the first Sunday of each month. Normally these donations are used to purchase "goods" from the larger Community FoodBank of NJ, which at this time time, is in need as well.
This is the season to be thankful for all of our blessings. As Christians, part of our mission is to be mindful of those in need.
There is a BASKET for food donations located in the Narthex. Let us fill this basket abundantly
in Thanksgiving for our blessings and as our duty as Christians!

       "A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor."

                                                      God bless you, Patti Stocker

A Note From the Teacher
"Know your story; Live it boldly."  Bishop Stokes gave us an important challenge this past Sunday.  He pointed out that many Episcopalians have grown up in the church or become members of the church but are missing some important pieces of information and understanding.  We have a Christian Education program at Christ Church designed to enrich the faith formation of all our parishioners.  As Advent begins this coming Sunday and as we prepare for the coming of Christ, please join us in study to prepare your own hearts.

Important Dates:
November 29: First Sunday in Advent, Sunday School assembles College Care Packages, Adult Bible Study has this week off
December 6: Second Sunday in Advent, Christmas Pageant practice, Adult Bible Study in parish hall with Father Justin
December 13: Third Sunday in Advent, Christmas Pageant dress rehearsal, Adult Bible Study in parish hall with Father Justin
December 20: Fourth Sunday in Advent, Christmas Pageant during the 10:00 service, Adult Bible Study in parish hall with Father Justin
December 24: Christmas Eve Service; please watch for the children's service times
December 27: no Sunday School
Lenten Study for the Sunday School:  As a preview for the spring curriculum and in answer to the need for a strong Episcopal education in our youth, the Sunday School children will study the Eucharist during the Lenten season.

May God bless you and yours during this coming Advent Season.  Please escape from the hustle and bustle of the commercial world and join us for spiritual reflection as we study the true meaning of Advent.

Moments At Christ Church

Thanksgiving Service
The General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
