Ecumenical Food Bank

We support the Ecumenical FoodBank located at Grace Lutheran Church, Somers Point, and it has been brought to my attention the FoodBank is in great need of food donations.
It is customary for us to make monetary donations on the first Sunday of each month. Normally these donations are used to purchase "goods" from the larger Community FoodBank of NJ, which at this time time, is in need as well.
This is the season to be thankful for all of our blessings. As Christians, part of our mission is to be mindful of those in need.
There is a BASKET for food donations located in the Narthex. Let us fill this basket abundantly
in Thanksgiving for our blessings and as our duty as Christians!

A Note From the Teacher
After some quiet time to start off the new year, we are about to fill our calendars with more activities for the Sunday School!  Lent begins February 10, 2016, so the primary Sunday School class will begin a special first communion curriculum which will run each Sunday until Easter.  Please join us!  Also, please look for the date of our annual Lenten Retreat and Easter Egg Hunt.

Dates for Sunday School
February 14: first Sunday of Holy Eucharist curriculum
March 27: Easter Sunday, no Sunday School
June 5: last day of Sunday School with recognition ceremony during the 10:00 service

Bible Study
All adults and teens are invited to our weekly Bible Study held in the parish hall at 9:00 each Sunday morning.  We really do have some great discussions as we gain meaningful insights into the weekly readings.  We are also building lasting relationships among our participants.  Please join us!

Ministries, Events, & Committees at Christ Church

"Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters,
There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;
and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord;
and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.
All are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses."
1 Corinthians 12:1, 4-6, 11

We all have been given gifts of the Spirit! Please take a look at our Ministries, Events, Committees and Continual Outreach, and see where your Spirit is calling you to serve!

Volunteer Coordinator for Grace Healthcare Services
Good Morning and Happy New Year!

I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Grace Healthcare Services.  We are trying to recruit volunteers to help in serving the community.  Hospice is a service which helps those who are coming to the end of their life and supports both the patient and the family through any end stage illness.  Volunteers are an invaluable piece of this service and sometimes the most important part.  Training is required but it gives the volunteers a strong understanding of our mission and purpose.  My schedule is flexible and I work to meet the needs of our volunteers so I can travel to them for training.

I would be happy to discuss with you, staff, organizations or parishioners interested in participating as a volunteer.  I am hoping that you may put a notice in your Sunday bulletin requesting volunteers.  Many of the parishes, including my own, St. Katharine Drexel, have used this verbiage:

Hospice Volunteers Needed:  If you have a warm heart, a listening ear and the gift of compassion, you can make a difference in the life of a hospice patient or family member.  Grace Healthcare Services is seeking individuals who wish to offer support.  Training is free.  If interested in learning more, please contact Kate Moore, Volunteer Coordinator.  E mail:   [email protected]
 or call (732) 986.1240.

Our company also looks for volunteer groups to participate in projects such as memory books, crafts for the patients, as well as knitting groups that may be interested in donating lap blankets or prayer shawls.

I understand that you have a Knit WITS club with whom I would love to speak to.

In addition, I would be happy to speak to your parishioners at the end of mass for a few minutes to explain what hospice is and the rewarding work that your parish can be a part of.

Thank you so much for your time.

 Take care,

Kate

Moments At Christ Church

Candlemass - February 2nd 2016
The date of February 2nd places the Candelaria celebration forty days after Christmas and continues the religious cycle that leads up to Easter Sunday. Additionally, it is also the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, which is the basis for various ancient European celebrations that commemorate the annual beginnings of the agricultural season.

For the Church, Candelaria remains a day of hope and light. It is a time to honor the Lord as the Light of the World and to remind us that we too have that light within us.
