THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
from Christy M. Hicks Aydt

Preaching for the Third Sunday of Easter, Christy M. Hicks Aydt offers a reflection on joyously welcoming Christ into our midst, even as we journey through sorrowful and fearful times:

"Our sorrow and fear is not so different from the first disciples of Jesus. But notice what happens in the midst of their distress and confusion. Jesus appears. He eats with them, maybe he even dances with them. And they are filled with amazement, sheer joy, wonder, fullness."

Christy M. Hicks Aydt is a Campus Minister at Saint Louis University and a spiritual director; also trained in the 19th Annotation, the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. Most of her career has been ministering to young people on college campuses. Prior to working at Saint Louis University, Christy worked as an Acquisition Editor at Liguori Publications for two years. In 2010-2011, she spent a year in India and Nepal. Though her studies have been through the lens of Catholic-Christian faith and thought, she reverences the faith and beauty other faith traditions share. Eastern spirituality and culture has gifted her with a more expansive image of God. Christy lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband and family.
Your Input Requested for Study
Easter greetings!

We are theologians and psychologists from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA. With colleagues from Georgetown University, Gonzaga University, and Xavier University (Cincinnati), we are conducting a research study to investigate the root causes of clergy sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church. Our hope is that this study will help us to understand the crisis and bring to light strategies for making the church a healthier, safer home for God's people.

One key element in our study is an anonymous online survey that combines personality measures with questions about seminary formation, authority, gender, and sexual integration, and qualitative reflections on ministry and the Church.

We are requesting your participation, which will involve the completion of this anonymous online survey. Your participation in this study is voluntary. If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time, there will be no penalty, and partial survey results will not be recorded. The results of the research study will be published, but neither your name nor any identifying information will be collected or used.

On average, the instrument takes participants 30-60 minutes to complete without breaks.

We are requesting responses to the survey by Friday, April 30th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Paul Schutz at pjschutz@scu.edu or Julie Rubio at jrubio@scu.edu.

We’re deeply grateful for your contribution to this important work, which we hope will foster new growth in the Church we love.

Easter Blessings,

Julie Hanlon Rubio, Ph.D.
Paul J. Schutz, Ph.D.
Thomas G. Plante, Ph.D.
Gerdenio (Sonny) Manuel, S.J., Ph.D.
