Are the best days of the Church behind or ahead of us?
Are God's best days ahead or behind us?
This past weekend a group of elders and staff meet with Ken McFayden who lead us through a retreat of imagining the possibilities ahead for the Church of the Covenant. If we accept that our best days are not behind us, then what is in store for the Church and ourselves going forward? If the best days of God are still to come, what does this inspire in us and through us as partners with the community in which we are embedded?
For me looking forward to what is ahead of us creates a mindset of imagination for partnerships between one another and with God. It leads me to opportunities to co-create the future where we are serving with our neighbors in beloved community, that cherishes the diversity of our humanity and our relationship to creation. This mindset calls me to venture out of our doors to encounter and respond to God in the midst of my daily life and bring that experience back to our faith community as a cycle of a lived theology where we are in relationship with each other and with God.
If our best days are ahead of us, think of the possibilities: imagine, dream, explore the opportunities to co-create the Kingdom of God right here and right now!
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.
