Love is higher than opinion. If people love one another the most varied opinions can be reconciled - thus one of the most important tasks for humankind today and in the future is that we should learn to live together and understand one another. If this human fellowship is not achieved, all talk of development is empty.
In this time when divisions between family members, political parties, and countries run increasingly deep, how can we, who call ourselves Jesus's disciples, live what Jesus calls the greatest commandment: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself? May we start by looking beyond labels and seeking the identities we all share: human being, citizen of Earth, God's beloved. May our faith inspire us today to seek what we have in common even with those with whom we passionately disagree.
And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
(1 Corinthians 13:13)
