"Leading the Hundred Toward Competitive Greatness"
Athletics Newsletter | Winter Issue No. 3
January 4th, 2017

With heavy hearts we send the athletics newsletter tonight. A return to school brought tragic news of the deaths of two of our scholar-athletes. Victoria and Skylar Falbe were involved in a plane crash earlier this week with their father and step-mother and lost their lives.

Our deepest condolences go out to their mother and extended families. During this time of grief our small community will need to bear one another's burdens to get through this difficulty. Skylar and Victoria will always be remembered for the joy they carried with them.

Victoria was a fun-loving and selfless girl. She was a vocal leader on the Middle School Volleyball team and a dear friend to many scholars in other sports. She was always looking to serve and help however she could.

Skylar brought a competitive fire to go along with her friendly smile. She always pushed herself and those around her to be their best. She was a thoughtful and happy girl that enjoyed softball so much this year.

As we try to continue the seasons of sports ahead of us, we will do all we can to honor these girls and their contributions to building the sports programs at Cicero Prep.

Thank you Victoria and Skylar for showing us how to Lead the Hundred.

MS Softball
As the team copes with the loss of Tori and Skylar, we will keep parents informed of changes to the softball schedule.

Coach Meyers will be in touch with parents and Mr. Thomas will be working tirelessly to make sure softball has all they need in this time of grief.

MS Baseball
The baseball game scheduled for this Saturday has been canceled. The rescheduled time will be announced later in the season.

As we look to continue to build our baseball program, we thank the efforts by so many parents to be flexible and to show Coach Kenny so much support.

News of Tori and Skylar brought extra time for reflection. Life is such a precious and fragile thing. What we do with our life can have ripples beyond our wildest dreams. I had the opportunity to reflect on Tori and Skylar's impact in my life, and I am so grateful for the chance I had to get to know them. Though it was far too short.

May we all find solace to our grief and the strength to continue on. This time in our young scholars' lives can be one for them to impact the world around them  for good. I hope our teams become stronger, closer, and more family-like through this tragedy. I hope we administrators, parents, and teachers can do the same as a community.

Sincerely,

Jake Thomas
