Leap Day Race
  This Wednesday, February 29, 2012 6:15 PM
2012 is a Leap Year so once again it is time for the RCGC Leap Day Race - a tradition that began in 2004. It will be a 4k Run on the Lunken Bike Trail. Race Day Registration only. Race Day Registration opens at 5:15 PM and race start is at 6:15 PM. Cost is $4.00 for RCGC Members / High School Students / College Students / Persons born on Leap Day ; $8.00 for the General Public. Group Discount is available.   • PLACE: Spirit of '76 Shelter, Lunken Playfield
  • COST: RACE DAY REGISTRATION ONLY! Registration opens at 5:15 PM at Spirit of '76 Shelter at Lunken Playfield.

Sprint For Special Olympics
  This Sunday March 4,2012 10:00AM
The Sprint for Special Olympics will be held this Sunday on March 4 at O'Bryon's Irish Pub in O'Bryonville at 10:00 AM. Race begins and ends at O'Bryon's Irish Pub. Enjoy the beautiful tree lined streets of O'Bryonville. Just follow the rainbow to the pot-of-gold. (err finish). Stay for the great party afterward. Race benefits the Hamilton County Special Olympics. For more information get the flier or call 513-271-2606.

RACE DETAILS

  • DATE: Sunday, March 4, 2012 - Open to All.
  • TIME: 10:00 AM.
  • PLACE: O'Bryon's Irish Pub, 1998 Madison Road, O'Bryonville.
  • PRE-REGISTRATION: Register on-line through First Giving or go to www.hcso.info to download a registration form. Mail-Entries must be postmarked February 29.
  • RACE DAY REGISTRATION: Begins at 9:00 a.m. at O'Bryon's Irish Pub. Adults + Party - $23.00; Children (7-13) - $12.00; Kids - 6 &under - Free. T-Shirts: - $12.00 Purchasing t-shirts on Race Day is not guaranteed, but admission to a great post-party is!
  • RACE NUMBER / T-SHIRT PICKUP: Day of Registration -  Begins at 9:00 a.m. at O'Bryon's Irish Pub.
  • AWARDS: To the first ten lads and the first ten lassies to reach the pot-of-gold(err finish).

Group Runs
 
The club has two weekly group runs to help you get ready for the Spring Marathon Season. Group runs/walks are open to Club members and future members. New runners/walkers welcome, too!
  • Miami Whitewater Group Run on Sundays at 8:30 am - We are continuing the group run from Miami Whitewater Forest due to the great turnout. For 2012, we are meeting every Sunday! Check-in is at 8:15 AM at the Visitor Center. Runs start at 8:30 AM. Contact Gina Meyers at 513-706-1454 or email her at meyersgm@rprunning.com for more information. Please Note: All vehicles entering Hamilton County District Parks must have a valid Motor Vehicle Park Permit($10 annual; $3 daily).
  • Tuesday Group Run - Laura Wagner currently leads the group on Tuesdays. Currently they meet at 6:30 PM at various locations around the Greater Cincinnati area. Contact Laura for details.
RCGC Heart Mini Team
 
The Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati has formed a team for the 35th Annual Heart Mini-Marathon!
The event will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 where you have the option of running the Half Marathon, the Mini-Marathon, the 5k Run, the HeartWalk and a few more. Currently, we have enough members to get the club logo on the back of the shirt. If you would like the Heart Mini shirt with the club logo on back, join our team now from our team page as only a limited number of Heart Mini Shirts with the club logo will be printed. If filling out a paper form indicate Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati  as your team. Cost of the HMM is $40 and $55 for the Heart Half Marathon through March 4. The 15k and Half Marathon begins at 7:45 AM this year and the 5k begins at a later time.

Upcoming Club Volunteer Opportunities
  Help The Club Help You
The club has a quite a few opportunities where you can help out the Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati.  If you can help out, contact us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com.
  1. The club needs about 5-10 volunteers to help with registration, timing, course direction, and finish line for the RCGC Leap Day Race on Wednesday February 29 from 5:00 PM - 7:15 PM.   For your efforts, you get a few goodies. If you can help out, contact us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or sign-up using our online registration form.  
  2. The club needs 2 at large trustees, a Vice President,  and a Secretary to serve on the board for the upcoming year. If you would like to fill one of these positions, let us know at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com. Terms for these positions are typically 1 year. You just need to attend the monthly board meeting and maybe give 3-4 hours a month of your time to help promote running in the Cincinnati area. If you can fill one of these vital positions, please let us know. You do need to be 18 and a member in good standing(dues paid for 2012).
  3. Currently, we have several openings for keeping the club running on an ongoing basis: Social Chair, Membership Chair, Program Chair, Newsletter Editor and Database Manager. Most positions take 1-2 hours a week of your time. If you can or would like to fulfill one of these positions, please send an email to cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or attend the next board meeting on March 7.
  4.  Have you ever wondered what it takes to put together a race? Do you have an idea for a race, but do not know how to get started with putting it together?  The club currently has race committee for 2012 that meets at the Potbelly Restaurant at Rookwood Pavilion to plan races for 2012.  The next meeting will be on Monday March 12, 2012 at 6:30 PM.  If you can not make the meeting, but are interested, send us an email at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com

For over 35 years, the Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati(RCGC for short) has promoted competitive running, recreational running, and walking and enhanced physical fitness in the Greater Cincinnati area. Membership is open to anyone who can put one foot in front of the other at least three times in a row and cough up the yearly dues which run $20/Single and $25/Family.
