The ReBirth of Fort Wayne's Downtown Cinema

A couple weeks ago, Jonah Crismore's name came across my desk 4 times in 4 days. I realized that I had to meet him and find out what all the buzz was about. Jonah is the new Executive Director of the Cinema Center in downtown Fort Wayne. With his arrival comes a fresh change that can be felt not only in the building but in their outreach into the community in recent weeks.

Ft. Wayne Farmer's Market: November

 


When: Saturday, November 3, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Where: LFEC at Parkview Field

Ft. Wayne Farmer's Market returns to the Lincoln Financial Event Center at Parkview Field this Saturday. Start your weekend off right with a little shopping from local vendors, in the warm atmosphere of the LFEC.

JK'S "Hale to Kale" Dinner

 

 

When: Monday, November 5, 6:30 p.m.

Where: J.K. O'Donnell's

 

J.K. O'Donnell's is hosting the last of their local food dinners for 2012 and it is sure to be a dandy. They are doing a JK's style tribute to one of the superfoods, KALE. 6 courses of delicious food (even an Ice Cream with Candied Bacon and Pistachios) with the perfect Bell's Beer pairing.

Fort Wayne Children's Concert: Harvest Concert



When: November 9 and 10, 7:30 p.m.
Where: First Presbyterian Sanctuary

The Fort Wayne Childrens Choir will present its 2012 Harvest Concert November 9 and 10 in the First Presbyterian Sanctuary. Both programs begin at 7:30 p.m. Presale tickets are available through IPFW Larson Ticket Office: $7/Adult, $4/Senior & Student (purchase online or at the Gates Athletic Center ticket office.) Tickets at the door: $8/Adult, $5/Senior & Student.

YLNI: My City Summit


 

When: Friday, November 2, 11:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Where: Grand Wayne Center

Two community engagement experts, who've helped counsel and improve cities across the country, will speak in Fort Wayne this fall as part of a summit hosted by the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI) as an effort to strengthen the city by increasing attachment of young adults in their 20s and 30s.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser for Homeless Families 


 

When: Sunday, November 11, 12:15 p.m.

Where: First Presbyterian Church

 

Join us for a light lunch and help homeless families in our community on Sunday, November 11, 12:15pm at First Presbyterian Church. $10 per person (children 5 & under free). Handcrafted bowls will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the Interfaith Hospitality Network. IHN's mission is to serve homeless families by providing emergency shelter, meals and comprehensive, compassionate and ongoing support. Please sign up in the Church Office.

Fort Wayne Ballet: The Nutcracker

Where: Arts United Center

Fort Wayne Ballet, northern Indiana's oldest and premier academy and performance dance organization, opens the 2012 holiday season with its classical rendition of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker for nine evening and matinee performances.

Headwaters Park: Ice Skating



When: Sunday, November 18
Where: Headwater Park Ice Skating Rink

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Headwaters Park Outdoor Ice Skating Rink will open at noon on Sunday, November 18. There will be free skating from Noon until 4 p.m. Admission fees will be waived for all skaters during those four hours, thanks to a gift from LFG!

A Christmas Story

The stage adaptation of the Jean Shepherd memoir of growing up in the 1930s follows 9-year-old Ralphie in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and Santa. All of the treasured elements from the movie are here!

The Will Rogers Follies

The University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts will continue its theatrical performances in the new USF Performing Arts Center with "The Will Rogers Follies" Nov. 9-11 and 16-18. The show will tell the life of Will Rogers.
