New hotel will feature 288 rooms, meeting spaces and dining
As one of the latest additions to Valley Boulevard, the Sheraton Los Angeles San Gabriel Hotel will feature 288 guest rooms, 19,000 square feet of meeting space, two restaurants and a full-service Starbucks. With the project nearing completion, hotel staff were willing to give us a preview of what residents can expect when the Sheraton opens this fall.

San Gabriel Summer Nights continues with live music
Kelly Che and her band will be performing in front of the Mission Playhouse this Thursday on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. as part of the city's Summer Nights series. Join Che, whose eclectic sound reflects influences from Cole Porter and the Beatles to Brazilian melodies and Korean folk. Come join us for an evening of music and fun!
California Department of Food & Agriculture to hold open house

Officials to discuss the Asian citrus psyllid pest 

The California Department of Food & Agriculture
will be hosting an open house public meeting this Thursday, June 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the McKinley Elementary School cafeteria at 1425 Manley Drive to discuss its response to the infestation of the Asian citrus psyllid (or ACP). The ACP is a tiny, flying insect that transmits a bacterial disease called Huanglongbing (or HLB for short).

Officials have detected the insect in Rosemead and in the surrounding community, and will begin treatment in the near future. Residents are invited to the open house meeting to address concerns or questions with CDFA officials.
Celebrate 4th of July in San Gabriel
Festivities begin with a parade at Plaza Park
Spend the 4th of July at San Gabriel's Kids' Day & 4th of July Parade on Tuesday, July 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This year's festivities will begin with a parade at 9:00 a.m. at Plaza Park. The parade will then travel north through the Mission District to Smith Park, where a barbecue, picnic games, community booths, entertainment and swimming will be offered.

At the last city council meeting, three officers were officially sworn in as the newest members of the San Gabriel Police Department. Please welcome Officers Thien-an Pham, Olge Zhivaga and Daniel Gosserand.

'411 with the Chief' to be held on July 5
Ask questions, and get to know San Gabriel's police chief
Police Chief Eugene Harris will be holding his monthly '411 with the Chief' event on July 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 425 S. Mission Drive.

Summer ice cream social for older adults
Social will be held on July 5 at the Adult Recreation Center
Looking for a way to beat the summer heat? In celebration of Independence Day, Community Services is offering an ice cream social for its older adult participants on Wednesday, July 5. Cool and refreshing ice cream with a variety of delicious toppings will be served at 12:15 p.m. after lunch at the Adult Recreation Center at 324 South Mission Drive. Lunch is served daily courtesy of Intervale Senior Services/YWCA for adults 60 years of age and older, and reservation check-in begins at 10:00 a.m. There is a $3 suggested donation per meal.

City to hold public meeting on the Parks and Open Space Master Plan
Community meeting to be held at San Gabriel Library on July 10
The city is currently developing a Parks and Open Space Master Plan, and would like input from community residents, business owners, youth organizations and other interested parties.

Interested residents may participate by attending a meeting at the San Gabriel Library at 500 South Del Mar Avenue on Monday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m.

National Night Out to be held in the Mission District on August 1
Join the SGPD for an evening of food, music and fun
Please join the city and the San Gabriel Police Department on Tuesday, August 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. as we celebrate the 23rd annual National Night Out event.

This year, the police department will be hosting the festivities in the historic Mission District located at 320 South Mission Drive between Broadway and Santa Anita Street. Police, fire and military vehicles and equipment will be on display in addition to various public safety exhibits and demonstrations.

Community workshop to be held July 5
Developer to hold meetings on 700-800 S. San Gabriel Blvd
Pacific Square San Gabriel, LLC will be hosting a second community workshop on July 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Alhambra/San Gabriel Elks Lodge (1373 East Las Tunas Drive) about the future development of the 5.85-acre property located at 700-800 S. San Gabriel Boulevard. Participants will have the opportunity to talk with the development team after receiving updated information about the project.

Additional improvements scheduled for this fall include the installation of new street trees along Mission Road, the completion of decorative elements associated with the new Mission Road bridge, and new landscaping associated with the construction of the new facility for the San Gabriel Police Department, which is expected to begin next year.
