Tarpon Bay
– This is a proposed 363 residential unit (315 single-family home, and 48 townhouses) project to be located between Roe Road and County Road 544. At the January 18 City Commission Meeting, the Commission approved a Comprehensive Plan Amendment, Residential Planned Unit Development, and Preliminary Plat for this project. What this means is that project has obtained its zoning and site plan approval, and is now moving forward with construction approvals. Currently, staff is reviewing both the site construction plans and road improvement plans for Roe Road. We’re also monitoring the County’s review of the traffic improvements that will be required (such as an eastbound left-turn lane) a result of this project. According to the applicant’s traffic study, the anticipated build-out year is 2021. Listed below are pictures from the applicant, Feltrim, illustrating the site.

Haines City Fire Department Welcomes New Firefighters
On January 18, 2018 Haines City Fire Department was able to increase our response capabilities in our community by hiring six (6) additional firefighters under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant.
Chief Mossgrove wrote the grant in early part of 2017 and received conformation in July 2017 from Congressman Darren Soto’s office that Haines City would be receiving $674,978 to hire additional firefighters. Haines City Fire Department is grateful for the support Congressman Darren Soto gave to the department helping them in securing this grant. The SAFER grant program are intended to support hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. SAFER strengthens in our nation’s ability to adequately staff for emergency response to fires and fire-related hazards, and improve overall level of preparedness.
Chief Mossgrove said, we are excited to welcome Eric Hudson, Richard Johnson, Christine Marku, Mirella Starr Pervenecki, Dalton Sloan, and Joshua Sneed to the fire department. With the additional personnel has made it possible to move closer to meeting the national benchmark of putting firefighters on the scene of a fire to safely operate and perform the fire suppression tasks.
