Measure G: Long-Term Project Making Significant Progress  
In an exciting time for the Folsom community, Measure G has been making significant progress. Many of the improvements have already been completed, while some are yet to begin. Passed in November 2014, Measure G is a $195 million voter-approved bond initiative that funds the construction, renovation, and modernization of FCUSD schools in Folsom. The overall goal of Measure G is to provide a modern and safe classroom environment that will support academic instruction, while enhancing the overall community. Measure G's recent project sites include Vista del Lago High School, Folsom High School, Sutter Middle School, Carl Sundahl Elementary School and Oak Chan Elementary School. Learn more.

Use of Fireworks During Diwali/Deepavali Festival of Lights 
The Indian festival of Diwali or Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is traditionally celebrated with the use of California State Fire Marshal registered "Safe and Sane" fireworks. The use of approved fireworks in conjunction with this festival may occur through Sunday, October 22 at 9 p.m. in the City of Folsom. The use of dangerous and illegal fireworks is still prohibited within all areas of the City of Folsom.The City of Folsom Fire Department is asking the public to take the following precautions when using fireworks during the festival period:
  • Make sure the firework has the State Fire Marshal "Safe and Sane" seal
  • The use of fireworks for this celebration must be conducted under adult supervision at all times
  • Have a bucket of water, sand or garden hose available at firing sites
  • Read all instructions before use
  • Never alter, modify or enhance fireworks - use only in the manner intended
  • Make sure fireworks have proper clearance from flammable materials including dry grass and brush

Bring Unwanted Fireworks to the Folsom Fire Department
Not sure what to do with leftover holiday fireworks, or have you recently found dangerous ones? All unused "Safe and Sane" fireworks and any illegal, dangerous fireworks can be turned in to the Folsom Fire Department at 535 Glenn Drive. The Folsom Fire Department works with the California State Fire Marshal to safely dispose of unwanted fireworks. For more information, call 916-984-2280.

Folsom Water Wins First Place in Regional Taste Test
Folsom water took home first place in the annual taste test coordinated by the Sacramento Regional Water Authority, a joint powers authority that represents two dozen providers and affiliates in the greater Sacramento region. The water is tested on clarity, bouquet and taste. This is the second time Folsom has received the recognition.
The City of Folsom provides its customers with an annual water quality report, the Consumer Confidence Report, to demonstrate how Folsom's water meets and exceeds the state and federal drinking water standards. The City encourages community members to review this report as it provides details about the source and quality of the drinking water delivered to the community. The report is available on the City of Folsom's website at   www.folsom.ca.us/ccr .

Folsom Public Library Spotlight: WWI and America
This October and November, the Folsom Public Library will mark the centenary of America's entry into World War I with presentations by local authors and historians and book discussions. On Saturday, October 21, writer Carrie Sessarego will demonstrate how WWI helped solidify the genres of science fiction and fantasy. Learn how the war shaped the work of J.R.R. Tolkein, C.S. Lewis and more. The workshop "

New Route for Folsom High School Homecoming Parade
The Folsom High School homecoming parade will take place on Wednesday, October 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade starts on Coloma Street between Natoma and Sutter streets, turns left onto Sutter Street, right on Wool Street, and then left on Leidesdorff Street. Specific parade route streets will be closed and a rolling road block will be implemented for Riley Street to prevent drivers on Riley from being delayed longer than necessary. The parade will be followed by a homecoming rally at the Historic District Amphitheater.

"Folsom Focus" Photography Contest Begins Today
Amateur photographers of all ages are encouraged to enter their photographs featuring the faces and places of Folsom. Capture images of life in Folsom using the five contest categories as your guideline, including the new category of cell phone photography. Entries are through October 27. The Community Gallery at 48 Natoma will display the contest entries and winners will be announced at the opening reception Friday, November 17. Trick-or-Treat with the Folsom Police 
The Folsom Police Department hosts their seventh annual open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 28. This year's event has a new feature-community members are invited to attend wearing Halloween costumes and take part in a trick-or-treat tour of the police station (please note: costumes that include weapons are not allowed). Meet and chat with Folsom Police Chief Cynthia Renaud, check out SWAT gear, learn about CSI, and meet our K-9 and Mounted Units. Learn more at www.folsom.ca.us/police.

Runway 17 Fundraising Fashion Show
Local dignitaries and resiĀ­dents will strut the catwalk for a good cause Sunday, November 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Folsom Community Center, 52 Natoma Street. Proceeds from the event benefit Folsom Runway, a volunteer community group developed in partnership with Folsom Parks & Recreation to provide inclusive recreational opportunities for children with special needs. Folsom Aquatic Center Pumpkin Plunge 
Take part in the spooktacular family fun from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, October 28. Activities include a Trunk-or-Treat, a pumpkin plunge, "toxic" water slide, costume contest, craft stations for pumpkin decorating and a screening of the animated movie, "Hotel Transylvania." Admission is $10 per person; the Folsom Aquatic Center is located at 1200 Riley Street. Call 916-355-8318 for more information.

Help Create Holiday Magic for the Community  
Volunteer decorators and carolers are needed for the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary's Wild Nights and Holiday Lights event. Groups, families and individuals are needed to decorate trees and install the lights on the animal enclosures, buildings, fences and grounds of the Zoo Sanctuary. Caroling groups are needed every evening of the event to add to the festive atmosphere. Decorating dates begin early in November; for more information, e-mail [email protected].

Food Truck Safari Wednesday
A fleet of SactoMoFo food trucks rolls into town 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 18 to serve up delicious food and tasty treats. This month's lineup of food trucks includes: Dog Town, Gyro King, La Mex Taqueria, Post Oak BBQ, Rudy's on the Roll, and The Sweet Spot. Food trucks line up next to the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary at 403 Stafford Street; bring the family and enjoy live music and activities for kids in the park. This event continues year-round, rain or shine, on the third Wednesday of each month.

Folsom's Veterans Day Parade Accepting Entries 
Thousands will honor local veterans at the 17th annual Wayne Spence Folsom Veterans Day Parade Saturday, November 11. The parade is held rain or shine and begins at 9 a.m. on Bidwell Street in front of the Target/Home Goods shopping center. This year's parade theme is "Remembering Our Veterans and Their Sacrifices." The City of Folsom is accepting parade entries through Friday, October 27; find details and entry forms on the City website or call 916-461-6615 for more information.
