City of Coatesville, Pennsylvania to Celebrate 100th Anniversary

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
~ Inaugural Celebration Slated for  

Monday, April 27, 2015

 

~ Event Site: Old Coatesville Train Station

 

   
 

Coatesville, PA - April 14, 2015 -The City of Coatesville, Pennsylvania will kick-off the inaugural event of its 2015 anniversary year with a joyous celebration at the old train station located at Fleetwood & Third Avenue, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015. This event will be the first in a series of events expected during the next eight months.

 

Invited to attend this historic event are state and local dignitaries (an invitation has been extended to Governor Tom Wolf), local business-people, school children, invited guests, and the Coatesville community. The event will also feature the announcement of the winner of the Coatesville Centennial student logo contest. Local centenarians will be present to share their stories. Re-enactor of Rebecca Lukens (Susannah Brody) will read a letter recently found within the walls of her childhood home, Brandywine Mansion, dated 1818.

 

DRAFT Timetable for April 27, 2015 Event

 

  • 10:00 a.m.-- Coatesville Area High School (CASH) Marching Band escorted by 4 AFJROTC cadets.
  • 10:05 a.m.-- Linda Lavender-Norris, Council President, welcomes everyone.
  • 10:10 a.m.-- Benediction - Pastor Randall Harris, Tabernacle Baptist Church and Chair of the Coatesville Ministerium.
  • 10:15 a.m.--Pledge of Allegiance - Fred Henrich, president of the Coatesville Savings Bank, the Presenting Sponsor of the Coatesville Centennial 2015 Celebration.
  • 10:16 a.m.--National Anthem - CASH Belltones and Red Men.
  • 10:20 a.m.-- Linda Lavender-Norris, Council President speaks briefly of Coatesville's past and future, as it relates to its residents.
  • 10:24 a.m.--Winning student of logo contest announced by new school superintendent Dr. Cathy Taschner(invited). Logo will be on all banners, flyers, and materials through the October 17 Heritage Day.
  • 10:25 a.m.-- Logo winner receives $100 award from an anonymous donor.
  • 10:30 a.m.-- John Robinson, President of USW Local and Al Fuller of ArcelorMittal (AM) acknowledge the company's historic role in the economy of Coatesville, (AM employs 900+ people).
    • They introduce the company's original founder Rebecca Lukens (played by re-enactor, Susannah Brody).
  • 10:35 a.m.--"Rebecca" reads a letter recently found in the walls of her childhood home (during restoration).
  • 10:40 a.m.-- Aja Thompson, CASH graduate and Coatesville Youth Initiative volunteer, introduced.
  • 10:42 a.m.-- Aja Thompson reads her poem, "I Love and Miss You, Coatesville."
  • 10:45 a.m.-- Linda Lavender-Norris, Council President introduces each set of elected officials:
    • Governor Wolf announces redevelopment/train station news
    • Elected officials present proclamations - commissioners talk about Legend Properties and Rtes. 82 & 30 expansion      
  • 10:55 a.m.--Cut the cake, donated by Giant Food Store in Thorndale (with Lee Carter's 2001 painting "The Arches" on top).
  • 11:00 a.m.--Lukens Marching Band closes ceremony
