CITY DEPARTMENTS
Department of Public Works
Utility work along the Trolley Trail in the Berwyn and Lakeland neighborhoods is planned for the coming month. The starting date of this project has not been finalized; it will include the installation of a new overhead cable above the trail. This work will require the closure of the trail due to the quantity of equipment needed to install the new cable. The new cable will run from Greenbelt Rd to Berwyn House Rd. More information regarding this project will be released when details become available.

Pepco infrastructure up-grade work is planned for this weekend in the Calvert Hills neighborhood along Beechwood, Clemson, Drexel Rds, and Wake Forest Dr. Taller utility poles have been installed to support a new cable. Tree pruning will be necessary to create clearance for the new cable, and has been approved by the property owners of the affected trees.

100 cubic yards of playground wood surfacing mulch has been installed at the Calvert Hills, Old Town, Crystal Springs and Branchville playgrounds to provide an adequate surfacing depth of cushioning material under the play structures.

The new Four Cities street sweeper, a Deluvo, has been delivered to Greenbelt and training was provided to Greenbelt mechanics and operators. The sweeper was put into use mid-week last week and did some sweeping in College Park. When the sweeper returns in July it will be the new sweeper for the entire two week period.

Mosquito Control
  • The City of College Park cooperates with the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) to identify and control mosquito populations. Larviciding treatments are made by MDA personnel to known areas of standing water to control mosquito larva that will prevent development into adult mosquitos. Spraying to control adult mosquitoes begins on June 6, weather permitting, and runs through September. Wednesday night is the designated day when spraying for adult mosquitoes may occur in College Park. MDA doesn’t spray individual properties; they treat neighborhoods that meet certain thresholds.
  • MDA has initiated a new mosquito complaint procedure; click here to provide your information.
  • Request for Exemption from Adult Mosquito Control Services. Any resident who wishes to have his/her property excluded from adult mosquito control pesticide applications by truck-mounted ultra low volume (ULV) sprayers must fill out this form annually. Click here for the application.
