Recycle Your Ride at Golden Community Pride Days & Support Eagle Scout Troop 329
Golden Community Pride Days is a great opportunity to clean up your home and beautify your neighborhood, but did you know you can help support folks in need at the same time? As part of the Pride Days clean up, bring your unused bicycle. The Golden Optimists Bicycle Recycle Program, with the help of a Golden Boy Scout Eagle project from Troop 329, will be collecting bicycles. The Golden Optimists volunteers repair donated bicycles and provide them to those in need. Bicycles go to international students from the Colorado School of Mines, teachers, kids, families, homeless and veterans who need bicycles for transportation, local Christmas giving programs, and to kids of the Navajo Nation. The Boy Scouts will also be helping to fix the bicycles donated during the May 2-3 event. To donate a bicycle at another time or get a bicycle, come out to the shop behind Heritage Square on a Tuesday or Thursday between 1 and 5 p.m. or visit goldenoptimists.com.

House Fire in Golden Under Investigation
Just after noon on April 23, multiple calls came in to 911 reporting heavy flames and smoke coming from a home in the 700 block of Iowa Street in Golden. Within minutes firefighters arrived on scene and began attacking the fire. It appears that the fire began in the back of the home in a storage shed that is attached to the house. As firefighters arrived, they heard several explosions coming from the back of the home which caused the fire to erupt. About 20 firefighters from Golden Fire, Fairmount Fire and Arvada Fire were on hand to help get the fire out. The fire spread into the attic of the home, which made for added challenges for firefighters to find the fire in the walls and also attack it with water. Although the fire did not destroy the home, it sustained heavy damage and is not currently habitable. The man who was renting the home was able to get out safely. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Youth Citizen's Police Academy teaches young people what police work is all about!
Do you know a young adult who is considering a career in Law Enforcement? A young adult who watches law enforcement themed TV shows and movies? Or is a fan of CSI? Wonders what it is that police officers really do?
From June 8 - 12, young adults who are accepted for the academy will learn what real police officers and police employees do in the performance of their duties and the rules and laws that guide them.
Academy attendees will receive information on how crimes such as Domestic Violence and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs are investigated. They will learn how Traffic Accident Investigators handle car crashes. Attendees will meet a Police K-9 handler and see a demonstration of the K-9 in action as the handler and his dog work as a team.
