Movies & Music in the Park 2014

Movies and Music in the Park

Come out this Friday to see The Lego Movie! Come early to enjoy the music of Mass Hipsteria!

If it looks like rain, check the website. If we have to reschedule, we'll make the call by 3 p.m. on the day of the scheduled movie.

Each year, the City of Golden offers movie-lovers the Movies & Music in the Park series. The free series typically runs Friday nights in August at Parfet Park located at 10th Street and Washington Avenue in downtown Golden. See the schedule below for this year's selection of movies and bands!

The series features free music and a family-friendly movie each Friday night. Bands begin performing at 7 p.m. and the featured movie of the night begins at dusk, around 8:30 p.m. The movies are shown on a giant inflatable screen under the stars.

23rd Annual Fine Arts Festival

Fine Arts Festival

The Golden Fine Arts Festival is an annual tradition celebrating art of all kinds. The juried festival features work in nine different mediums: Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Mixed Media, 2D, Painting, Photography, and Sculpture.

The Festival is held in historic downtown Golden on 11th Street just west of Washington Avenue between Arapahoe and Maple streets. It's an open-air gallery in a lovely setting adjacent to tree-lined Clear Creek and features beautiful views of the foothills.

Come out to see and buy beautiful unique artwork while enjoying music from live bands, free carriage and train rides, and food and drink from a variety of vendors, including beer from Golden City Brewery.

2014 Dash at the Splash Kid's Triathlon

2014 Dash at the Splash

Dash at the Splash Kid's Triathlon event is designed to be a fun challenge for the up and coming tri-athlete in your family. This event will be held at the Splash water park in Golden.

The event is open to children twelve years of age and under. Children are broken down into age groups of 8 and under, 9 to 10 year olds, and 11 to 12 year olds, and the age categorie will determine the distances in each event that the child will complete. The event is designed to promote healthy active lifestyles in children.

Triathlon Distances (approximate)

8 & under: 50 meter swim, 1.35 mile bike, 1/2 mile run
9-10 years: 100 meter swim, 2.7 mile bike, 1 mile run
11-12 years: 150 meter swim, 4 mile bike, 1 mile run

Golden Farmers Market

The Golden Farmers Market is bigger and better than ever!

In addition to a delectable array of locally grown fruits and vegetables, you'll find garden decor, specialty treats, flowers and plants, and hard to find specialty items. Fill out the menu with frozen fish and meats, fresh breads, canned condiments and sweets, locally-made wines, plus wonderful pasta and unique cooking ingredients. While you shop, enjoy live music and free horse-drawn carriage rides through Historic Golden.

Join the fun from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday this summer (with the exception of during Buffalo Bill Days, July 26) in the parking lot just west of the Golden Library, 1019 10th Street.

Jeffco Innovators' Workshop

Human brain function grunge with gears

Follow Your Passion! A formula for an Interesting Life will be presented by Troy Wanek, at the Wednesday, August 13 meeting of the JeffCo Innovators Workshop. The workshop will be held in the Golden City Council's Chambers at Golden City Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The address is 911 10th Street, Golden 80401. The head of the Renewable Energy Technology Department at Red Rocks Community College, Troy Wanek has created a fascinating life for himself and his family out of his devotion to a single energy technology solar. In addition to teaching and his duties at the college, Wanek owns Solar Energy Environments, LLC and travels extensively around the globe spreading the gospel about solar energy, and helping in-need communities establish solar facilities. Most recently, he was in Jamaica installing solar energy for medical clinics, was consulting about the technology in Jordan, and researching solar installation teaching methods in Australia, and several countries in Europe with a National Science Foundation cohort.

Economic Development Commission Meeting

The Economic Development Commission (EDComm) was established by Golden City Council in June of 1999 and consists of eight members. The purpose of the Economic Development Commission is to provide leadership, education, and the tools necessary for the Golden community to optimize appropriate economic opportunities. Their duties include developing a structure and strategy for marketing/promoting the Golden community.

The Economic Development Commission meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. If a meeting must be rescheduled for some reason, the date will be noted on the Community Calendar.

Rescheduled: Parks & Recreation Board Meeting

Please note: This meeting has been rescheduled from its original date of August 19. The Parks and Recreation Board was created in 1982 in order to increase community involvement, and to advise Golden City Council and staff on how to best provide safe and comprehensive parks and recreation facilities, programs, and services on behalf of all current and future residents of the City of Golden. The board consists of seven members and one alternate who serve four-year terms, making suggestions about policies and procedures, fees and charges, acceptance of park land, design of parks, and other projects relating to the Parks and Recreation Department. The board meets regularly at 7 p.m. in the Community Center on the third Tuesday of each month. For more information, please visit our Parks and Recreation Board page.

The Golden City Council meets in Council Chambers in City Hall every second and fourth Thursday at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Some meetings are rescheduled or the start time must be altered due to holidays or other events happening in the city. Changes in the regular schedule will be noted online.

Golden Community Center: GCC to temporarily close for necessary maintenance
Attention fans of the Golden Community Center! The Golden Community Center will be closed for maintenance August 18 � 24. But don't panic - during the temporary closure, all annual passholders will be welcome at the�Wheat Ridge Recreation�Center.

The annual closure is necessary to help maintain the popular recreational center in peak operational order. In addition to attending to several large general maintenance issues, new�carpet will be installed, wood floors will be repaired and refinished, and the whole facility will be thoroughly cleaned...visit the Golden Community Center

Clearview Parkway: Street Paving Program starts next week
Martin Marietta will mobilize next week to begin Golden's street paving program. Clearview Parkway is first up for a new surface, followed by Deer Springs, Meadow Run and Mesa Drive. Residents on these streets will be notified at least 72 hours in advance of paving operations to inform them of parking restrictions and access to driveways.

The Splash: Golden Fire Department to Recognize Life-Saving Lifeguards
The Golden Fire Department wants to recognize the lifeguards and staff at the Splash Aquatic Park for their roles in saving the life of a toddler. On July 11, a 20 month-old boy nearly drowned at the water park, but the swift actions of staff saved his life.� Read more!
