Upcoming Events
From City Council meetings to bike races to community choir concerts, there's always something happening in Golden.

Don't miss out! Keep track of what's happening and when on the Community Calendar.

Submit an Event!
Help us keep our Community Calendar up-to-date. If you are sponsoring a not-for-profit event that takes place in Golden and welcomes everyone, we want to know about it. Fill out our event submission form and if it fits our editorial standard, we'll add it to the calendar.

Love it or hate it, there's no ignoring it - the USA Pro Challenge is taking over Golden this Sunday!

Whether you're looking forward to cheering riders on as they fight their way up Lookout Mountain, or are planning your escape from the crowds and street closures that day, we want to help. Check out our USA Pro Challenge page for race route maps, street closures and parking information.

But there's a lot more happening in Golden this week than a bike race. The Fire Department is hosting a Community Safety Fair on Saturday, and don't forget Movies & Music in the Park this Friday. It's also worth mentioning this week is when annual maintenance at the Community Center takes place, so you'll see a lot of closures at the GCC. If you're a member or were planning a visit, read below to learn what will be closed and when so you know before you go.

Biking, walking, driving or all of the above, we hope you have a fantastic week!

Project Updates
Heritage Road Update

Heritage Road Paving Shelton Elementary did a great job of sharing with parents information about road closures and detours prior to the first day of school, and there were no issues that day.

The contractors completed all the cut lines and inner circle last week, and pavers are now on site to start the first lift of asphalt (See photo to the right). Today, crews began the second and final asphalt lift and will complete striping, signing and pavement markings on Thursday. We anticipate opening the intersection of Heritage Rd and Eagleridge Dr. on Thursday at noon. This is, of course, very weather dependent with the rain forecast for the beginning of the week.

After Eagleridge is reopened, Heritage Rd will remain closed from the south side of the roundabout to 4th Ave in anticipation of the start of phase 3 beginning August 24. This will require utilizing 6th and Colfax to reach either end of Heritage Rd.
2015 Concrete Replacement project

The contractor is currently working on the Wyoming Park trailhead, which should be finished Thursday.
2015 Street Improvements project

Martin Marietta will be paving the Wyoming St trailhead on Tuesday. They are scheduled to return to town on August 29 to begin N. Ford St. and S. Golden Rd.
2015 Utility Replacement project

Jones Rd sewer replacement will be completed Wednesday, August 19.

Water main replacement on Wyoming and Virginia from North Ford to North Jackson will begin this week.

Sanitary sewer rehabilitation will begin in the Golden Heights neighborhood (West 4th and Orchard area) the end of this week.
Cressman Trail Tree Removal

Cressman Trail along Ridge Road at Aspen Place will be closed beginning Tuesday, August 18 through Thursday, August 20 for tree removal.

We apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any questions, please contact Paul Burkholder.

The Splash final weekend coming up!

the Splash If you haven't been to the Splash yet this summer, this weekend is your final chance before it closes for the season.

Lions Park dual tennis courts now open for play!

The Lions Park dual tennis courts, which have been closed since early spring for repairs, are now ready for play! The rainy summer caused delays, impacting contractor availability, which resulted in the courts being effectively closed all summer.

Repairs consisted of filling cracks with concrete, resetting the post and resurfacing the entire court. Quickstart lines have also been added to encourage use by younger players.

Next our contractors will be working on the single court and then moving to the dual court at Southridge Park. Each court will be closed for approximately one week (weather permitting) during repairs.

Safety tips for dealing with rattlesnakes

If you've seen a rattlesnake around town, you're not alone. According to Jamie Segal, Code Enforcement Officer with the Golden Police Department, the number of snakes seems to cycle up and down each year, and this year has seen an uptick.

The rattlesnakes we have here in Golden are prairie rattlers. They are a fairly non-aggressive species, tending to be much more defensive. If you see one, Officer Segal advises the best thing you can do is leave them alone.
