The Measles Outbreak...Are you up-to-date on vaccinations?

Measles Outbreak According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from January 1 to January 30, 2015, 102 people from 14 states were reported to have measles. Most of these cases are part of a large, ongoing multi-stateoutbreak linked to an amusement park in California. On January 23, 2015, CDC issued a Health Advisory to notify public health departments and healthcare facilities about this multi-state outbreak and to provide guidance for healthcare providers nationwide. It is important to understand that measles is a highly contagious, acute viral illness that can cause severe health complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, and death. The disease is transmitted by contact with an infected person through coughing and sneezing; infected people are contagious from 4 days before their rash starts through 4 days afterwards. After an infected person leaves a location, the virus remains viable for up to 2 hours on surfaces and in the air.

Beware of Jury Duty Phone Scam

A person claiming to be a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy is calling residents and saying they have missed jury duty. The scammer says that unless the resident pays a fine of several hundred dollars immediately, they risk being arrested on the spot and going to jail.

The scammers are manipulating caller ID to make it look as though the call is coming from the Sheriff's office. If someone were to call the number back, an answering machine also states they have reached the Jefferson County Sheriff's office.

The scammer instructs the resident to purchase a Green Dot reloadable prepaid credit card. The scammer also instructs the resident to not hang up the phone and to stay on the line the entire time during the transaction.

The City of Golden Police Department wants the residents to know that the City would NEVER contact anyone by phone to make such a collection call and urges residents to be cautious of any similar type calls.

If you are unsure about any contact, trust your instincts and call Golden Police to assist. You can reach Golden Police non-emergency dispatch at 303-384-8045.
