Downtown Golden City Manager, Mike Bestor, announced his retirement earlier this year, and since then, City Council has been working hard to find qualified candidates who can take the reins, and keep Golden moving forward in a positive direction.

At the last City Council meeting, the field was narrowed to five, and this week is your opportunity to meet those candidates and help City Council select the best fit. You can review bios for each candidate on our website, and don't miss the meet and greet on June 19 to meet them all in person!

Read on for more information on the upcoming Meet and Greet, and for more information on what's happening this week.

Have a great week, and hope to see you at the Meet and Greet on Friday!

Parks and Recreation Board Meeting

The Parks and Recreation Board will meet on June 16 at 7 p.m. in the Community Center.

The Parks and Recreation Board was created in 1982 in order to increase community involvement, and to advise Golden City Council and staff on how to best provide safe and comprehensive parks and recreation facilities, programs, and services on behalf of all current and future residents of the City of Golden.

The board consists of seven members and one alternate who serve four-year terms, making suggestions about policies and procedures, fees and charges, acceptance of park land, design of parks, and other projects relating to the Parks and Recreation Department.

The board meets regularly at 7 p.m. in the Community Center on the third Tuesday of each month. For more information, please visit our Parks and Recreation Board page.

CBAC Meeting

CBAC will meet on June 17 at 7:30 a.m. in Council Chambers.

The Citizens Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) was created by the City Manager to advise City staff on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the annual City budget.

Participation in CBAC is an opportunity not only to advise on the prioritization of how City tax dollars are spent, but also to advise our policymakers in their decision-making process.

CBAC meets the third Wednesday of each month, March through November, at 7:30 a.m. in the Golden City Hall Council Chambers.

Around Town
Heritage Road work moves forward, road closures planned

With many working days lost to weather delays, City crews are working diligently to make up time on the Heritage Road project, and have made significant progress.

Today, June 16, 2015, the intersection of Heritage Rd and Berthoud Way will be closed to begin prepping for paving operations between Kimball Ave. and Berthoud Way.

Weather pending, it is anticipated that the intersection will be paved and reopened on Thursday, June 18. There is a signed detour directing residents to use Eagleridge Dr or W. 4th Ave  to access their neighborhood.

Heritage Rd  still remains closed to through traffic.

Access restricted on Clear Creek due to high water levels

At 3 p.m. on June 12, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Golden Police Department limited waterway activities on Clear Creek. These temporary restrictions apply to Clear Creek in unincorporated Jefferson County, as well as those portions of Clear Creek within the City of Golden, including Vanover Park.

Water activities prohibited by the order include all single-chambered air inflated devices such as belly boats, inner tubes and single chambered rafts, as well as "body-surfers" and swimming.

Kayaks, whitewater canoes and multi-chambered professionally guided rafts and river boards are exempt, but are encouraged to observe extreme caution due to the safety concerns surrounding swift moving water and floating debris. All of the above users and occupants must have the use of a Type I, Type III, or Type V Coast Guard approved paddling life jacket and a water use designed helmet.

Violators may be issued a summons for a class 2 petty offense, punishable by a fine of one hundred dollars. These restrictions will be strictly enforced in an effort to minimize the risk to those using the waterway.

These temporary water restrictions will remain in effect until water levels decrease.

Parts of Clear Creek Trail closed due to flood damage

With Clear Creek brimming the banks, it's no surprise that parts of the trail have been subject to recent flooding. Last week's high water flows washed out portions of the Clear Creek Trail west of US 6, leaving the raw water pipeline exposed in limited locations, but still functioning. The ballast added when crews recently replaced it has protected it.

The trail will remained closed until repairs can be made, dependent upon creek levels.

Utility Replacement

Crews have completed hydrant replacement that will serve Golden Terrace. This week, the contractor will start the Texas-Alaska area for water main replacement.

Worth Repeating!

In April, Council directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a new five-year trash and recycling contract as the current City-wide single hauler contract expires on August 31, 2015.

The City received three bids from qualified haulers and compiled the proposals into a summary that compares basic trash and recycling services, yard waste services, and optional household services.

To review the bids, please visit our Trash & Recycling page.
