Golden Music Festival 2015 kicks off this Friday!

Get ready to get your Bluegrass on! The Golden Music Festival kicks off this Friday with three days of great music at the Clear Creek History Park, June 12-14.

Friday's line-up includes Groundscore, Ragged Union, and Long Road Home.

The Adam Kinghorn Quartet will be Saturday's headline act. A graduate of Golden High School, guitarist Adam Kinghorn has been a crowd favorite at the festival for several years. He is also featured in a short biographical video in the "Turn it Up" music exhibit at the Golden History Center.

Golden-based Thunder and Rain will headline Sunday's event with original tunes from their recently released album.

For a look at the full line-up of amazing artists, visit GoldenMusicFestival.org.

The Golden Music Festival is in its 19th year and raises money for Golden History Museums' hands-on programming and exhibits. "Our event has grown to become one of the region's top outdoor music festivals," said Museum Director, Nathan Richie. "We hear from more guests each year who love visiting the park and make this festival an annual tradition."

Grass-seating will be on a natural hillside amphitheater, and guests will enjoy a variety of both traditional and modern bluegrass. The festival will feature beverages from Golden-based MillerCoors and AC Golden Brewing Company, as well as a variety of foods for sale from local vendors.

Tickets are available in-person at the Golden History Center, 923 10th St. in Golden and online. Advance tickets are $10 for members of Golden History Museums and $15 for non-members. Tickets are $20 at the gate, and three-day passes are available for $30. Children 12 and under are free.

More information is available at GoldenMusicFestival.org or by calling 303-278-3557.

The Clear Creek History Park is located at 11th and Arapahoe Streets in Golden. Golden History Museums engages and inspires visitors by preserving and sharing Golden's history.

Kids' Bike Rodeo

Get a safe start to summer! The City of Golden is partnering with Bicycle Colorado for a Kids' Bike Rodeo. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Coors Tek parking lot on the corner of 10th and Jackson Streets (across the street from Parfet Park).

Children do not need to bring bikes, but should bring helmets if they have them. Bicycle Colorado will assist with proper helmet fitting for children. This is a great opportunity for children to learn safety techniques. Bike rodeos are recommended for children ages 4 to 13. Bicycles and striders will be provided. Children can come anytime and go through the course as many times as they like!

The event is completely free.

Colorado Ride for Kids

Every day, 13 children in the United States get the news that they have pediatric brain tumor, one of the deadliest forms of childhood cancer. Ride for Kids was created in 1984 to help these kids by raising funds that benefit the Pediatric Brian Tumor Foundation's medical research and family support programs. The fun-filled, family-friendly rides will take place in 37 locations across the country, including Jefferson County!

Riders on all makes and models of bikes are welcome to attend. The suggested minimum donation to ride is $40 per motorcycle, and riders are encouraged to fundraise before the event to maximize their impact for the kids.

Register online now!

The escorted ride starts at 10 a.m. sharp, rain or shine at the Jefferson County Human Services Bldg., 900 Jefferson Co. Pkwy. The ride will loop back to the start point.

DDA Meeting

The DDA will meet on June 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a special district entity authorized and directed by state statute to benefit the economic and community vitality of the downtown area. The DDA will also be authorized to provide tax increment economic incentives to eligible redevelopment projects, much like GURA was able to do in the past.

The DDA meets on the third Monday of each month (unless otherwise noted on the calendar) at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Please visit the Downtown Development Authority page for more information and to access agendas and meetings of current and previous meetings.

Around Town

In April, Council directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a new five-year trash and recycling contract as the current City-wide single hauler contract expires on August 31, 2015.

The City received three bids from qualified haulers and compiled the proposals into a summary that compares basic trash and recycling services, yard waste services, and optional household services.

To review the bids, please visit our Trash & Recycling page.

Work on Heritage Road moves forward

Paving is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday of next week for the section from Kimball to Fire Station 4 on Heritage Road, which will require closing the intersection at Berthoud.

Crews are pouring a raised bike lane (pictured below), and working on storm drains at Eagle Ridge intersection.

Street improvements project on hold

The contractor working on the City's Street Improvements project has moved out of town to complete other obligations, so the project is now on hold. The contractor will return mid-July to complete the remainder of the streets list.

Utility Replacement

Waterline replacement at 18th and Cheyenne will be complete this week. Trenches, however, will not be patched because the streets will be repaved as soon as Martin Marietta, the contractors working on the Streets project, get back in town in July. Crews are next moving to W. 4th for hydrant replacement that will serve Golden Terrace. The contractor will then move to Texas-Alaska area for water main replacement.

Street Patching on Washington

Crews are now completing extensive patching on Washington Street, mostly between Iowa and SH 93. Patching this large an area is not what the City would normally do for economic reasons. However, because we have federal grant money to upgrade Washington to a complete street, patching is being done to keep the road serviceable until construction in 2018.
