Honoring our veterans and enjoying the gift of freedom in Golden

Farmers Market
This past weekend was all about showing respect and honor to our veterans - current and past - and thanking them for their service. Thank you veterans! We have you to thank for all we enjoy in our beautiful city and country today.

Looking ahead at the week we have a lot happening. On Thursday evening the City will be hosting a Community Safety Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Golden High School Auditorium. Please scroll down to read more about this community meeting. That day is also noteworthy as Wear Orange Day, a day devoted to ending gun violence.

The weekend holds a little more light-hearted entertainment starting with the first Street Fair of the season on Friday evening, followed by the first Golden Farmers Market the next morning.

Please keep reading to keep informed on what's happening in your City and have a great week!

Interim Closures on 19th

There will be spot one way closures with flagmen on 19th between 6th and Elm for removal of curb and sidewalk on the south side of 19th. These will be needed to allow flagged one-way traffic to pass the work area. One-way traffic will not occur during peak hours. Grading will begin for the roundabout on the south side of 19th, and there will be some stormwater drain lines installed.

This is a tight area so please pay attention and drive slow, which is good advice because we have asked the police to monitor traffic speeds.
Other work this week

Other work this week
  • Stormwater and wastewater utility work will continue outside of the US 6 travel lanes.
  • Retaining wall facing will continue in all quadrants.
  • Excess mucky material is being removed south of 19th St.
Please note, these plans can change at any time depending on weather and other factors.

New Water Meter
Water Meter Replacement project - all notices now sent out

The City of Golden water meter replacement project began in late March, with Keystone Utility Systems as the City's contractor for the project. About 40 to 60 replacements are happening per day now, city-wide. Notices of replacements are going out in utility bills, and as of the last billing cycle, all notices should now be out. If your notice indicates you should call for an appointment, please contact Keystone with the contact information below. Appointments  are available Monday through Saturday between approximately 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Please remove any items blocking access to the water meter before Keystone arrives to ensure a quick and trouble-free replacement.

A typical residential replacement will take approximately 20 minutes; a commercial replacement may take several hours. If your meter is in a pit outside, you do not need to do anything. If you have an inside set meter you will need to contact Keystone and schedule an appointment. You can schedule via email at  Office@keystoneutilities.com or by phone at 1-877-587-2279 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Contact Les Major at 303-384-8170 or Keith Mehls at 303-384-8171 with questions regarding this project.

Golden Community Safety Meeting to Address Home Invasion

The Golden Police Department, in conjunction with the First Judicial District Attorney's Office, will host a community safety meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2 in the auditorium of Golden High School, 701 24th St. There was a recent home invasion in Golden that has raised safety concerns for many in the community. This has had a significant impact on the family that was victimized as well as the community at large.

The home of Jesse and Jessica Swift was invaded by several suspects on May 16.  Three of the four suspects are in custody and one at large. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. During the meeting the Swifts will make a statement acknowledging the support of the community and the work done by the Golden Police Department. Other speakers include Dr. John Nicoletti, District Attorney Pete Weir, and Golden Police Chief Bill Kilpatrick.  The meeting will also include valuable safety information presented Golden police officers.

The meeting is designed for those affected by this event to come together as a community to gather useful information and to heal.  The auditorium seats approximately 450.  If anyone is not able to attend, the meeting will be recorded and available on the City website, www.cityofgolden.net within a few days after the event.

Because there are pending criminal cases, and the investigation is ongoing, there will be no discussion of the facts of the case.

Today, the CAG serves hundreds in the Golden community each month. Many area businesses support the non-profit through donations of time, money and food. It is operated solely by volunteers.

Wear Orange on June 2 to support an end to gun violence

On May 26, 2016, Mayor Marjorie Sloan on behalf of City Council proclaimed June 2, 2016, to be National Gun Violence Awareness Day. This was done to honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence and to declare that we as a country must do more to reduce gun violence.

We need your input on the future of Golden Parks & Recreation

The City of Golden Parks and Recreation Department has commissioned a Parks and Recreation Master Plan Survey as part of an effort to update the 2008 Master Plan. Community input is an important part of this process and helps the Parks and Recreation Department to best tailor the plan to reflect Golden residents' desires and needs.

Go to www.goldenparkssurvey.org/open to fill out the Parks and Recreation public survey. The results of the survey will provide critical information in determining community values, satisfaction levels, needs and priorities, and demographics for Golden Parks and Recreation's long-term planning efforts. Questions asked include what types of programs, facilities, and services residents want in their parks system and where priorities should be placed.
