The Mayor's 2016 Community Event, tonight!

The 7 th  annual Mayor's 2016 Community Event is tonight at 6:30 p.m. and you're invited! This year, the Mayor has partnered with the Colorado School of Mines to also acknowledge people who work toward the betterment of both the City and the University. Find out who won the Mayor's Awards for Excellence by reading further in this newsletter, then come out to support them as they are honored.

Next Monday is Halloween, so drive extra carefully this weekend and keep an extra eye out for little ghosties and monsters with a sweet tooth. And on Halloween, don't forget to have some extra canned goods on hand for the Trick-or-Treat so Golden Can Eat campaign - you can read more about it further on in the newsletter.

Linking Lookout (US 6 & 19th St. Interchange)

Pier caps for the columns were completed on Monday, Oct. 24. Bridge girders will be placed beginning Thursday Oct. 27. Girders will be placed beginning at the south and will be completed about 2/3 of the way to the north. The final 28 girders will be installed in November. Completing the southern section is critical to moving 19th Street onto the bridge, which is critical to project timing.

Curb and Gutter and paving for portions of the US 6 main line from under the lid to the north will begin next week as most activity will move up to the 19th Street approach slabs in preparation for moving 19th onto the bridge prior to the end of the year.

During last weekend's closure the contractor completed the final pipeline crossing of US 6. There should be no further closures of US 6.

Watch the Linking Lookout web page for closure information and detour maps.

There is a construction viewing in the northwest corner that can be accessed from Parfet Estates Drive, and will be an excellent location to view the girder placement. Please park legally.

Golden Police Reveal New "Ride"

There are major consequences for driving drunk. But in Golden, there are now incentives for driving sober. The Golden Police Department (GPD) is working with local businesses to provide gift certificates to anyone "caught" being a designated driver. This initiative is called Project Sober Hero, created by two Golden Police officers and now used department-wide.

In addition, GPD has partnered with Metro Taxi to make sure taxi cabs are available in and around Golden for those who do not have designated drivers. An impressive car donated by Metro Taxi will now serve as a rolling billboard to advertise the perks of getting in the back of a taxi rather than being put into the back of a police car.
