Upcoming Events
Golden Bicycle Cruise

Golden Bicycle CruiseTonight! Bike ride along the beautiful trails in Golden, and then enjoy a small festival for the riders. Come at 6 p.m. to socialize, then the ride begins at 7 p.m.! Free and open to all ages, the Golden Cruise will be leaving from the parking lot just west of the Golden Library on 10th Street. The theme this evening is...Zombies!

This is the last ride for the year until next April, so don't miss it!

Once again, the New Belgium Brewing Company will be pouring their fabulous Fat Tire Amber Ale and one other summer brew, while a local band serves up great music. And, of course, there will be food and fun for everyone!

There will be prize drawings after the ride for gift cards to Golden businesses, so be sure to get your drawing tickets! As part of their Inspiring Health campaign, St. Anthony's Hospital will be sponsoring the drawing for the cruiser bike at the end of the cruise so don't miss your chance to score a sweet new ride.

Under the auspices of the Golden Civic Foundation, volunteers from Golden's nonprofit organizations will be helping with set-up, tear down, and manning the beer garden in exchange for a cut of the beer proceeds. The Golden High School boys swim and dive team will act as course marshals, and will also receive a share of the proceeds. This is a great chance to support all the fine folks doing wonderful things in our town, so grab your kids and a couple of friends, and join us for the last ride of the season.

Halloween Crazy Days

Halloween Crazy Days
Calling all ghosties, ghoulies and even a few adorable super heroes! It's that time of year when the cute spooks come out to play and add to their candy collection.

Parents can bring their little monsters to downtown Golden on Oct. 31, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for some trick-or-treating and Halloween hijinks. Merchants along Washington Street will be serving up fun and treats for the whole family!
Food & Fund Drive for Christian Action Guild Food Bank

Food Pantry The Love and Logic Institute has teamed up with the Christian Action Guild for a food and fund drive to help Golden residents most in need.

All donations go to our local Christian Action Guild Thrift Shop and Food Bank.

Tax deductible, non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at the Love and Logic Institute located at 2207 Jackson St. in Golden. Monetary donations can also be mailed to this address.

Learn how to work with exchange students information session

Learn about part-time, rewarding work with international exchange students. Aspect Foundation, a non-profit student exchange organization, will be at Golden Public Library answering questions and speaking about the rewards of becoming an International Coordinator. International Coordinators work part-time to bring exchange students to Jefferson County high schools and mentor them throughout their American experience.

The information session will be held at the Golden Public Library located at 1019 10th St., Golden, CO 80401 on November 1, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Historic Preservation Board Meeting

The Historic Preservation Board has a number of responsibilities regarding the preservation and upkeep of Golden's many historic sites.

The Board will meet on Monday, November 3 in the City Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m.

If you're mailing your ballot, remember the ballot must be received by 7 p.m. on November 4 to be counted, not just post-marked. If you're dropping off off your ballot but aren't sure where, visit the Jefferson County elections page for more information.

Golden Community Center 20th Anniversary
The Golden Community Center is 20 years old! Hard to believe this beloved institution might never have been built if only 6 people had changed their minds, or not made it out to vote on the proposed 1 cent sales tax hike that was needed to pay for it.

This video offers a stroll down memory lane to when the Golden Community Center was nothing more than a dream and a goal!
Beverly Heights: Lookout Mountain Rd. traffic enforcement event

Many residents have expressed concern regarding noise and speed coming from motorcycles and certain types of vehicles as they drive up and down Lookout Mountain Rd. Following meetings with concerned citizens, the City committed to conducting a traffic enforcement event before the season was over. 

That event was conducted on Sunday, October 26, 2014, which was a beautiful day and popular for scenic drivers. Two Golden Police officers worked the activity, one from 2:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.and the other from 4:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

Overall, here's the breakdown of the event:
Total drivers contacted - 10
Total stops made - 8
Total citations issued - 5
Total warnings given - 3
Total man hours spent - 10.5

Golden Streets: Street improvements continue

Work continues on the Golden street improvements program. Many streets in Golden are smooth rides now, but some are still works-in-progress.The following streets are in progress now:

Golden Community Center: New carpet means interrupted workouts

The fitness area at the Golden Community Center will close Friday Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. for new carpet to be installed. The installation will take place until Sunday Nov. 2. 

During this time, some fitness equipment and gym space will be unavailable. We appreciate your patience as we update our wellness area and apologize for the inconvenience!
North Table Mountain: Purge the Spurge!

Purge the Spurge!
Keep an eye on your mailbox residents of the North Table Mountain area! 

Mailers are being sent to alert these residents of an opportunity to have Myrtle Spurge removed from their properties by volunteers, free of charge. Residents will be asked to sign the approval and return to the Wildlands Restoration Volunteers. The event will take place from March through June. Myrtle Spurge is a Class A noxious weed and it is a State requirement that it be eradicated where and when found. It contains a toxic, milky sap which can cause severe skin irritations, including blistering. Additionally, the plant is poisonous if ingested, causing nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Tucker Gulch Trail

Work on the Tucker Gulch Trail extension is moving apace. The footers were poured last week. This week, the walls are being filled, and crews are backfilling the footers.
Eagle Ridge: Traffic calming constructed this week
Residents in the Eagle Ridge area are sure to have seen the lines on the pavement, and work that has commenced on the traffic calming project. As work progresses, intermittent short detours on Entrada Drive may be necessary so keep alert!
Fossil Trace: New award-winning website!

Fossil Trace Golf Club If you haven't visited the Fossil Trace Golf Club website recently, take an online tour! Recently rebuilt, the website is already pulling in awards. Webolutions, the web development firm who built the new site, just won two Davey Awards for the beautiful new site in the categories of Websites - Sports Category, and Websites - Visual Appeal.

South Ridge Park: Playground resurfaced

South Ridge Park playground will be closed this week as the playground surface is replaced. A poured-in-place safety surface will be installed to provide better ADA accessibility to the playground. The closure will last through Oct. 31. 
Building a Sustainable future for Golden

A sustainable Golden This month CSAB and a panel of local experts have begun research into potential projects to address the threats of climate change on our community with the goal of improved understanding of climate adaptation needs and resources. The panel will use a common-sense approach with a keen eye on the City's fiscal responsibility to formulate recommendations for opportunities and projects that City Council may consider.In addition, Golden is participating in a statewide Local Resilience Project, sponsored by the Colorado Municipal League, that will identify possible local actions and resources needed from the state and federal governments.
