Castle Rock Fall The rain is back! And just in time. Last week, the Golden Fire Department set in place Stage 1 fire restrictions due to a hot, dry September, but the recent moisture has enabled them to lift those restrictions as of noon today. We're not saying go crazy with the open flames - please use caution - but the restrictions are now gone.

On a completely different note, today was a big day for both the Police, and our Facebook community! Earlier today the Police requested help in identifying a person seen in surveillance footage who was using a stolen credit card at 14 stores in the metro area. Within 40 minutes of posting his image on Facebook, the suspect was identified. Now that's community policing! As yet, the suspect is still at large, so scroll down to read the full story and view the picture. If you know anything, let Det. Eric Jones know at 303- 215-8863.

While that's plenty, we have more, so read on...and have a great week!

Around Town
Suspect identified, Police still trying to locate

The Golden Police Department has identified the man suspected of using a stolen credit card to purchase items at 14 different stores in the metro area.

The GPD put out a Facebook post with surveillance images of the suspect and within 40 minutes, the public was able to provide a positive identification. We would like to thank the public for their quick response to this case. It is a good example of how social media can be a powerful tool in solving crimes.

If you know the whereabouts of the suspect in the surveillance images, please contact Det. Eric Jones at 303-215-8863. We are holding off on releasing his name until formal charges can be filed.

Fire Restrictions Lifted

Due to changes in weather patterns, the Golden Fire Department is lifting the Stage 1 fire restrictions within the city limits of Golden, which were put into effect on Sept. 24.
This change is effective as of noon today. This does not apply to areas in Unincorporated Jefferson County, but does coincide with Jefferson County's decision to lift fire restrictions as well.

Golden Fire will continue to monitor the weather and make adjustments as necessary. We still ask that citizens take precautions and be smart about extinguishing fires and cigarettes. But for now, Golden is not under any fire restrictions.
Worth Repeating!

Compost and the Green Waste Program

As you probably know, the City has contracted Alpine Waste & Recycling for collection services to households in the city program for the next five years. What you might not know is that the Green Waste program is better than ever.

With the new program ANY household can participate in the city's Green Waste service. Not just households in the city's program, but any household in the city limits. Here's the scoop:
  • You will receive a 96-gallon two-wheeled cart to place at the curb on your day of service. You'll also receive a food waste container to keep in your kitchen or garage to store potentially smelly items until your service day.
  • Collect any yard waste: leaves, grass, weeds, branches, and reasonably sized limbs.  Collect kitchen waste: any food, disposable paper goods, greasy pizza boxes and much more. See this list for acceptable and prohibited items.
  • Every two weeks, YEAR ROUND, Alpine will pick up the contents of your green waste cart. On your service day, put the food waste items into the green waste cart and set out at the curb by 7 a.m.
  • For new customers, a subsidized price of $9.45 per month is provided by the Community Sustainability Advisory Board. Bills will be sent directly to your home by Alpine Waste & Recycling.
  • To sign up for service or for more information, please call (303) 277-TRASH (8727) or email golden@alpinewaste.com
