Babysitter Boot Camp
Do you have a teen ages 12-17 who wants to earn some money babysitting this summer? Or maybe, you want them to help watch their younger siblings? Linda Chandler is offering The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) course just in time for summer! The class comes with a magazine-format guide designed to engage and inform the aspiring babysitter.  It gives teenagers everything they need to know, from getting started, to dealing with parents and children, to key safety, care giving, and first aid tips. The CABS course gives teenagers essential information, but it doesn't read like a textbook.  We've broken childcare and babysitting down into sections, combining practical information with graphics and images designed to pull teenagers in and keep them engaged. This one-day workshop will be held Sat, June 25, 1-4:30pm, $76. Please pre-register at least a week in advance by calling 360-779-9898 or register online at https://secure.rec1.com/WA/poulsbo-parks-recreation/catalog.

Planning & Economic Development Department Anniversary
In April the Poulsbo Planning and Economic Development Department celebrated its one year anniversary after its new reconfiguration. The department has refocused its efforts to combine economic development into its core functions. Highlights from the year include hosting the Business Education Support Training (BE$T) courses for the first time in North Kitsap, compiling demographic and community data and publishing the information for the public, and sharing our experience with other jurisdictions and elected officials at the Peninsula Planners Forum. In addition to the economic development efforts, the department also processed 47 land use permits in 2015,  including the Old City Hall Mixed Use Redevelopment, Westwood Crossing Preliminary Plat (37 lots), and Summerset Final Plat (128 lots).
