Civitas High School Model UN this Saturday

Students have done a great deal of preparation for this Saturday's Civitas Model United Nations. We actually have three sessions, the morning one from 8:30 - 11:30 AM; the afternoon one from 1:00 - 4:00 PM and the evening one from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

We are at full capacity for the morning and afternoon; registration for those sessions is now closed.  The evening session is not full, so it is the only registration still open.

The deadline for submitting resolutions is noon this Wednesday, November 15. We've made a guide to help students submit resolutions.

To see the resolutions that will be discussed at the Model UN sessions, please click here.

To all registered delegates, remember that you have been sent a digital ticket for admission. To participate in the Model UN, you must bring a print-out of the ticket or a digital version on a phone or other electronic device. Another option is to remember your ticket number and let us know at the registration desk.

If you cannot locate your ticket, please contact us at info@civitas-stl.com.

Remember that the three Model United Nations Sessions are at the Creve Coeur Drury Inn;  11980 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, MO 63141 ( map).

Congrats to all students who came to Model UN Prep Session

Thanks to the eighteen Model UN delegates who came to the Civitas office last Saturday for a prep session for the Model United Nations. It was an informal work session in which students researched their countries, examined issues of relevance to their countries and wrote resolutions.

Civitas Book Club to Meet on "The Hate You Give"

On Saturday, December 2 Civitas is hosting its first-every book discussion for The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. This riveting, provocative debut novel is about a black high school student whose unarmed friend is killed by a policeman and she witnesses the event. It was the #1 best seller for young adult fiction for over 30 weeks (recently bumped by John Green's Turtles All the Way Down, of course!).

Civitas has 10 copies of the book circulating among students. Let us know if you would like to borrow one and we'll get it to you as soon as possible. It is a quick read, full of dialogue and timely circumstances. And as an added bonus, Angie Thomas the author will be in St. Louis on Sunday, November 19 th at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters (1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., 63119) at 1:00 to talk about her book. The event is free and Angie Thomas will be joined by five other prominent young adult writers.

Some Civitas staff are planning to attend the author event at the library, so look for them if you go. Reece Ellis, Civitas intern, is coming in town from Truman to attend our discussion on December 2 because the book left such an impression on him and he is eager to hear what others have to say. The sign-up for December 2 nd is on our website. You are welcome to sign up and join the conversation that morning even if you don't have time to read the book.
