Did you know that May is "Get caught reading" month?

What book are you reading right now?

Barb - I'm reading When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. This book will change your perspective on everything - even something many of us leave as an unspoken taboo: mortality. Paul Kalanithi died in March 2015 while working on this book. "I began to realize that coming face to face with my own mortality, in a sense, had changed nothing and everything," he wrote. "Seven words from Samuel Beckett began to repeat in my head: 'I can't go on. I'll go on.'" When Breath Becomes Air is a transformational read-a life-affirming tale of facing death with dignity.

Timmy - I am currently reading People Magazine - my addiction!  I tear out the pages with book reviews then read the books on my Kindle throughout the summer!

Lisa -  Right now I am reading Fool Me Once, the latest book by Harlan Coben. I really enjoy suspenseful thrillers and this does not disappoint! I first read his book The Stranger, and I have been hooked on his writing ever since.

Dana - I'm reading  The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. We are currently packing for a move later this month and this book is helping me purge and get organized!

Karen E. -  I just started The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. Seeing that I'm only on page 7, I really don't have much to offer in the way of a review as of yet! However based on what I have heard from friends that have read this book, it doesn't disappoint. This novel revolves around a lighthouse keeper and his wife living on an isolated and desolate island when one day a boat washes up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby.  Tom, the light keeper, wants to report this immediately to the authorities but his wife insists they raise the baby as their own. I can't wait to really get into this book and discover what happens next. It sounds very intriguing!

Karen B. - I am just several chapters into All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I tend to read historic novels, and this one is set in World War II France and Germany. Two of the main characters are an orphaned teenage German boy and a blind teenage French girl, whose lives overlap during the German occupation of France. It appears to be beautifully written, however I am not crazy about the current trend of devoting a chapter to one character and the next to another character, flipping back and forth. I am hoping to get engrossed in the book as many others have!

May 2016

From the Desk of Barb Clapp...
A month ago today I finished my Dancing With the Stars salsa dance and ended an incredible journey. I was absolutely terrified to get up and dance in front of 700 people, but I did it! I admit it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it was also one of the most personally fulfilling. I have learned in life that the" hard" about something is what makes it great when you actually achieve it. So I felt fantastic that I did it, I made a new friend in my dance partner, I experienced innumerable kindnesses from other people, I became a decent salsa dancer, and raised almost $40,000 for Alzheimer's research. Many of you donated to the cause and supported me in so many other ways.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Barb
