Happy Thanksgiving!

This month we're sharing our favorite Thanksgiving memories and traditions!
BarbWe have had the pleasure of hosting several German exchange students over the years and three of them have been Viehoff siblings who have come to stay with us three different years. Celebrating Thanksgiving with the students was such a treat. They don't celebrate the holiday and each of them loved the food and friendship of the day.  My daughter spent a semester abroad in Ireland and was sad about missing Thanksgiving at home until the Mom, Claudia Viehoff, invited Britt to Germany for dinner. They put together an authentic Thanksgiving dinner in Britt's honor. It was their way of saying thanks for our caring for their children and a nod to the USA!!

TimmyI have 3 sisters. When my mother sold our "big house" more than 20 years ago, she assigned each daughter a holiday - mine was Thanksgiving!  I have been hosting and cooking (with a little help from my friends!) ever since. Grateful and blessed.

Karen E. I love Thanksgiving! Now that my kids are grown it's so much more special when everyone comes home for the holiday. It's always great food, football and family with a little pumpkin pie and chardonnay on the side.  I usually host our Thanksgiving each year and we also go to our friends for a Friendsgiving every Thanksgiving Eve as well, which is a blast.

Karen B.  -  Some of my favorite Thanksgiving memories involve attending the Loyola-Calvert Hall Turkey Bowl with friends and family. This is one of the oldest football rivalries in the country, almost 100 years. Although the venue has changed, I think it was best at the old Memorial Stadium! In college, we would start at Jerry's Belvedere for "Sour Hour" beforehand, as if we needed that!

Sarah - My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is simple - spending time with my family. I have a very large family so it's really fun when we all get together. My Mom and I love to fully embrace the holiday!

Catherine  Both of my parents are from Baltimore. Growing up, I was lucky enough to celebrate two Thanksgivings - supper (aka lunch) with my mom's side and dinner with my dad's. It wasn't until I reached high school that I realized it's not exactly normal to scarf down two full Thanksgiving meals in one day.

BrittanyWe used to go to my grandmother's house and she would spend hours in the kitchen preparing the food and my grandfather would carve the turkey. After eating, we would sit around and joke with each other. That tradition has passed to my aunt and uncle and their house is full of the same love and great cooking!  I've also been lucky over the past couple of years to be a part of Friendsgiving.

November 2017
From the Desk of Barb Clapp...
November has always been one of my favorite months - the leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and it's home to Thanksgiving!
Call me sappy, but I love everything about this beautiful holiday. Maybe it's the food (who doesn't love the sauerkraut?!); maybe it's the quality time with family and friends; or maybe it's the focus on the intangible rather than glitter and bows; but there is something special about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving shows us that true wealth is not measured in money or material possessions, but comes from inside. This year, as you sit at the table, preparing to dig into your meal, I hope you, too, feel that inner happiness which can only come from thanks....giving.
