It is time to "Saddle Up and Ride" for the Clark County Fair!  I want to thank all who participated in the board meeting last week.  It was a long meeting, but extremely productive.  We have a great group of EHC officers and members in Clark County!

Volunteer Hours and Leader Trainings
Volunteer Hours Reported:1107 hours October 2015-June 2016
I know all the clubs and many members are doing great volunteer work.  I have a form that you can use to turn in your time and projects if you want to use it.  I encourage each club to include turning in volunteer hours as part of your monthly club meetings. Presidents, you can also turn in volunteer hours at the monthly board meeting.

Leader Trainings Conducted: 5
Education is a key component of Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council.  Please let me know if your club has included an educational topic as part of your club meeting since March.
Updates
Kitchen Information and Schedule for the Fair:

All club kitchen cleaning day: August 23 at 9:00 AM
Every club should have members participating in the clean-up.  We will also do a walk-through of how to operate the equipment.

The Kitchen will open Tuesday night, September 13th and close out on Saturday night, September 17th.  Rebekah has outdone herself again making a updated menu to match the fair theme.  Your club president has details on club assigned shifts for the kitchen.  We will have OBU and HSU student volunteers again this year, but I will not know how many or what shifts until school starts back.
Arts and Crafts Building Schedule:

For those of you assisting with checking in entries in the Arts & Crafts Building:

September 9th: Building Set-up Day.  Please arrive at 9:00 AM to paper tables, check supplies and for a brief superintendents meeting.  The prison crew will be moving the furniture for us again this year.  I want to review the procedures for entering items, information that needs collected for the book, entering district or state fair, etc.

September 12th: Check-in Day:  Please arrive at no later than 11:45 PM for check in to begin at 12:00 Noon and close at 7:00 PM.  A Fair Board member will open the door for you.

September 13th: Judging and Building Opening Day:  Please arrive at 8:45AM for judging.  Evelyn Good has agreed to greet the judges and assist them with getting to the correct areas for judging. A meal will be provided by the Fair Board.  Once your area has been judged and your book turned in to Earlene, please begin merchandising your area for building opening at 5:30 PM

September 18th: Entry Pick-up from 2:00-3:00 PM: Please have at least one person from your category at pick-up to ensure that entries go home with the correct person and to assist with tearing down- paper removal from tables, etc.  I have created a form that will help residents understand the process if they wish to leave items for district and county fair.  I will discuss this form at the building set-up day.

Building Take-down day: TBD, not scheduled at this time.  The prison crew will put the furniture away.  I do not anticipate needing volunteers on this date.

Pageant Information
The Pageant and Talent Contest is September 10th at 6:00 PM at Arkansas Hall on the Henderson State University Campus.  Club Presidents have details on club responsibilities leading up to the pageant, rehearsal, and pageant night.
The pageant and talent rules and registration forms are ready.  We really need to support this fundraiser by drumming up contestants and spectators for the pageant.

If you have Facebook, please go to my page: www.facebook.com/ClarkCountyFamilyAndConsumerSciences and share the pageant and talent flyers.

If you need copies of the rules and entry forms, call or email myself at [email protected] or Rebekah at [email protected].  We can also fax forms to people needing them.

Flyers will be going out to the schools soon.  Flyers are being placed in HSU Freshman Orientation packets.  Karen has arranged for newspaper and cable coverage.  If you can take flyers and place them at local businesses, please call Rebekah to let her know how many you want.  Advertise, Advertise, Advertise!
Southwest District Fair- Clark County Building Sitting Day: September 29th from 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM

Four volunteers are needed to building sit at the District Fair.  There is no compensation for volunteering, but it is fun to see exhibits from other counties and see how entries from our county did.  Please let me know if you are available to help this day.  It would be great if all the volunteers could ride together since no mileage is being paid.

All district fair entries will be online this year.  Check out what classes are available at : http://www.southwestarkansasdistrictlivestockshow.com/
