Welcome21Welcome, Class of 2021!

We officially welcomed the Class of 2021 to campus one week ago. Current students moved the first years into the RC. Then, the Orientation team (pictured below) introduced all ICO has to offer. There were campus tours, lectures, nights out, and of course, the Chicago Architecture Tour. Classes began on Monday. These future doctors are fitting right in!

To see photos from Move-In day, visit  our Flickr page. Listen to the Class of 2021's custom Move-in playlist on  Spotify. ICO's traditional back to school video is available  on YouTube. This year, it features a hidden talent of  Drs. Mark Colip and  Stephanie Fromstein.

Leadership Speech from General Harencak
Tuesday, August 29, 5 p.m. in Room 1201
  • Air Force General Harencak, a colleague of ICO alumnus Adam Klemens, OD '05, will address the student body about leadership. Says Dr. Klemens, "Effective patient care requires solid leadership from the provider. Patients have to choose to follow our advice." These motivational messages are a great starting point on the journey to OD.
EclipseThe Great American Eclipse

We are just five days away from a solar eclipse- a once-in-a-lifetime astronomy event! While you won't be able to see complete totality from Chicago, the view from ICO will be worthwhile. From our perspective, the moon will cover 90% of the sun. Even a partial eclipse is awesome; see if you can be outside on August 21 at 1:26 p.m.

We encourage you to enjoy the eclipse, but please do so safely. Do not look directly at the sun unless you are wearing certified "eclipse glasses." Don't have a pair?  On August 21, visit the ICO Library for eclipse glasses, Sun Chips, Moon Pies, and Capri Sun drinks. If you want your glasses sooner, try the Chicago Public Library or Adler Planetarium.

If you are traveling to get an even better view of the eclipse, we want to hear about it! E-mail Communications with your story.
