Job Summary:

 

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a non-partisan American public policy and grant-making institution dedicated to promoting better understanding and cooperation between North America and Europe on transatlantic and global issues.

 

The Climate & Energy Program seeks an undergraduate or graduate level intern to assist with our international climate policy research and general administrative support.

 

The German Marshall Fund's Climate & Energy Program aims to facilitate transatlantic cooperation and understanding on climate policy by bringing together considerable networks, research, and convening power to engage policymakers, climate negotiators, business leaders, academics, and members of the NGO community from both sides of the Atlantic. The Program facilitates transatlantic dialogue around national policies to drive low carbon economic growth and clean energy markets, rethinking transatlantic climate diplomacy, and climate change and transatlantic security. This position will focus equally on all main aspects of our work.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Conduct background research and policy & literature reviews;
• Edit and contribute to policy-relevant publications and write substantive content for internal and external communications;

• Gather and organize logistical information for events and seminars and provide support in both planning and on-site logistics;
• Complete one long-term project in collaboration with the internship supervisor;
• Attend and summarize key events at GMF and external organizations for program staff; and
• Other duties to include database entry and administrative support.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Have a genuine and enthusiastic interest in climate and/or environmental studies.
• Be creative, organized, responsible, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Have excellent analytical, writing skills and previous research experience.
• Be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with a strong background in climate change and/or environmental studies, U.S. and/or European public policy and/or international relations. Recent graduates will also be considered.
• Knowledge of European language(s) is preferred but not required.

Start and length of internship:

Preferred starting date: August 2012 (exact date is flexible)

Preferred time commitment: at least 20 hours per week and at least 4 months (preferably longer).
