County aids in tornado aftermath
 
Clermont County departments, including the Emergency Management Agency, Building Department, the Office of Public Information and the Office of Environmental Quality, all were involved in assisting Pierce Township in the wake of the March 1 tornado that struck the Locust Lake subdivision. The tornado touched down at an estimated time of 3:38 a.m. and lasted until 3:47 a.m. Winds reached up to 110 mph. The tornado path was approximately 6.4 miles long and 150 yards wide at its maximum.  Damage is estimated to be at more than $1 million. No one was injured.
#MarchAmnesty: Child support warrants
Clermont County Child Support Enforcement Division will offer amnesty in March to noncustodial parents who have outstanding civil warrants relating to a child support hearing. During the month of March, parents who have failed to appear for a court hearing, or to report to jail to serve a sentence relating to child support only, should contact the Child Support Enforcement Office.  This service, which will be offered at no cost, will help noncustodial parents get back on track legally. Commissioner David Uible, 2017 President of the Board of County Commissioners, previews some of the big initiatives coming up this year.
Crime Victims' Rights Week lunch is April 6
Clermont County's 4 th  annual National Crime Victims' Rights Week Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on April 6 at Pattison Park Lodge, 2228 US 50, Batavia. The public is invited to attend.  The lunch is sponsored by the Clermont County Advocacy Alliance on Violence and the Clermont County Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team.

Speakers will include Scott O'Reilly, an assistant county prosecutor who specializes in child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault cases, as well as two survivors of domestic violence. Read more here.
March is DD Awareness Month
 
On Feb. 22 at Regular Session, Commissioners proclaimed March Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. There to accept the proclamation was Cody Blevins of Batavia Township, who works in customer service and at the ticket counter at Ovation Cinema and Grill in Anderson Township. County DD boards in Ohio are celebrating their 50th birthday this year! Pancakes, walks, opening day: #Parks

Lots of events are on tap in March and early April:

Pancakes in the Park, 8:30-11:30 a.m. March 11, Pattison Park: Learn how maple syrup is made and sample some delicious homemade syrup at the annual pancake breakfast! Tickets are available at the door ($6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 5).
 
Wildflower Walk, 10-11 a.m. March 18, Sycamore Park: Join us as we keep an eye out for emerging spring wildflowers. Free.
 
Habitats for Homeschoolers, 10-11:30 a.m., March 21, Chilo Lock 34 Park: This program will introduce students to our local habitats and the animals that live within them. Throughout the program students will explore three different types of habitats, meet our live animals and participate in fun activities and gain a better understanding of the world around us.

Museum Opening Day, 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. April 1, Chilo Lock 34 Park:  Celebrate the yearly reopening of the Chilo Lock 34 Visitor Center and Museum. You can learn about the unique history of Chilo and the Ohio River. We will have hot dogs and refreshments. Free.

REGIONAL CCAO MEETING: Clermont County commissioners, along with those from Adams, Brown and Scioto, attended a  County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) meeting in Manchester, Ohio, on Feb. 23 to discuss county priorities across Ohio. These included replacement options for revenue lost from the eliminations of a Medicaid managed care tax, the opiate crisis and the resulting impact on Children's Services; replacing aging voter equipment, and reimbursement for indigent defense. Commissioner Ed Humphrey is President of CCAO.
 
$5 RABIES SHOTS: Clermont County Public Health is teaming up with Lifetime Pet Center of New Richmond to offer $5 rabies vaccinations from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, March 18. The clinic will be held at Grant Career Center, 718 W. Plane St., Bethel. All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier. Cash only please. For more information visit  www.ccphohio.org.

CNE students job shadow Domestic Relations Court. Feb. 23. 2017 FUTURE JUDGE ALERT!  On Feb. 23, the Domestic Relations Court participated in the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce Work Readiness Initiative Job Shadowing Program. Six students from CNE High School spent the morning talking to Judge Kathleen Rodenberg and staff members learning about their various functions and backgrounds. The students also observed a domestic violence hearing and a child support enforcement hearing. All students are members of the CNE Mock Trial team.  

LOOK TO YOUTH: Registration is now open for  LOOK to Clermont Youth Leadership Program  for the 2017-18 school year. Clermont County high school juniors and seniors may register by contacting the OSU Extension, Clermont County office or by seeing their school guidance counselor. The deadline to apply is March 17. This program i s managed by OSU Extension Clermont County in partnership with UC Clermont College. Students are eligible to earn college credit through both institutions.Participants also complete a group leadership project that benefits the community.  Click here to apply.
