Click - The West Through the Lens
Exhibition & Sale
November 8th, 2014 - February 22nd, 2015
Bronc Pickup by Bev Pettit

Please join the Phippen Museum as we proudly present, Click - The West through the Lens, a very special invitational exhibition and sale featuring the photography of seventeen of America's finest photographers of the West.

Each of the participating artists in this exhibition were offered exclusive invitations based on their impressive portfolios and were asked to send up to six pieces each. These talented photographers include: Scott Baxter, Lisa Dearing, Barry Denton, Dave Drost, Jay Dusard, Adam Jahiel, Gary Ladd, Kathy McCraine, Colleen Miniuk-Sperry, Robert Osborn, Bev Pettit, Cheyenne L. Rouse, Raechel Running, Lynn Sankey, Priscilla Tacheney, Lynette Tritel and Derek von Briesen.

Commercially introduced in 1839, practical photography was a cumbersome process requiring loads of equipment and lots of time. And while the tools and chemicals necessary to create photographic images were bulky and caustic, they were hauled through some of the most unforgiving environments in America to create the first portraits and landscapes of the American West.

From Edward Curtis to Ansel Adams, these extremely dedicated photographers of the past documented and paid tribute to the West through their photos. And for Clicks- participating artists, recording the West and capturing images of its diverse people, places and wildlife still holds the same magic and fascination it did for their contemporaries 150 years ago.

Phil managed Kolb Studio and assisted with the launch of the The Amazing Kolb Brothers exhibit. A self-taught Kolb historian, Phil frequently leads guided tours of the Kolb residence for the Grand Canyon Association and was interviewed for a NPR story about the brothers during the summer of 2014. He is also a member of the Grand Canyon Historical Society and studied History at Penn State University.
