WGS 201

This spring semester the Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, Office of Residence Life, and Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life are pleased to again offer a section of WGS 201: Introduction to Women's Studies. Instructor: Dr. Elise Radina (FSW).

  • Section is built specifically for current members of Miami's sorority community.
  • Books being considered for inclusion: Inside Greek U (Alan DeSantis) and Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities (Alexandra Robbins)
  • Members of Panhellenic Association and National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters are encouraged to enroll in this class.
  • The class will take a global perspective on women and their influence.
  • This course is a Global Miami Plan Foundation course and fulfills requirements for Social Science courses, Global courses, and the Cultures requirement (the course may count As Social Science and Cultures or Global and Cultures).

This year the course is labeled as WGS 201 Section A.  The course meets MWF from 11:30-12:25 in 364 Upham.

Because this course section is only offered to sorority members, it is listed as a closed section on Bannerweb.  Students wanting to enroll in this course will be hand enrolled by Will Atkins, Associate Director of the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life.

Instructions on how to enroll:

Any current members of Panhellenic Association and National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters wanting to request enrollment should send an email (that includes full name and student id number) to Will Atkins, atkinswl@MiamiOH.edu.

Due to the limited number of seats, enrollment will be based upon the request date, and each email can only refer to the individual sender (students cannot request multiple seats for roommates, friends, etc).

Although there might be delay in actual course enrollment, students will receive a response notification of their status (either approved or wait listed) and should plan for this course in their regular Spring Enrollment process if approved.

For further information or questions about the course, please contact the instructor, Dr. Elise Radina (radiname@MiamiOH.edu).

Greek of the Week

Brooke Hauser is doing good in her community. Sister in Pi Beta Phi, Emily Minevich, nominated Brooke because of her selfless and giving nature. Brook ran AKPsi's Trick or Trot with minimal notice in order to support another organization's philanthropy. Emily says Brooke "has constantly gone above and beyond in regards to giving back to her community. Everything she does, whether for Pi Beta Phi, Panhellenic or her friends, she has done humbly and with great grace."

Apart from Pi Beta Phi, Brooke is a member of WIB (women in business), and is an Accounting major. She just finished her term as Vice President of Fraternity Development within Pi Beta Phi and continues to play an active role in events. "She is friendly, open minded, and smart. I am honored to call her my best friend and my role model," continues Emily.

Thank you, Brooke, for serving our community.
