Introducing Chestnut Fieldhouse
Chestnut Fieldhouse is the newest addition to Miami Recreation, offering a space for function fitness workouts, group fitness classes, and reservations for large group workouts. The facility is located at the former Talawanda High School site on Chestnut Avenue.  The main space includes multi-purpose fitness flooring, dumbbell racks, bumper plates, kettle bells, jump ropes, plyo-boxes and other types of movable equipment.  

Hours of operations are Mon-Fri 1-7:30p with classes at 4:30p, 5:30p and 6:30p.  Additionally open recreation time is Saturday 9a-1p and Sunday 4-9p.  

A semester membership is $90 for students. Group rates of $30 / hour are also available for individual organizations.

Looking for a great opportunity this summer? Come back to Oxford early and work as a MADE@Miami Peer Leader!

MADE@Miami is a three-day, pre-semester program which is now entering its 10th year. MADE is designed to bring together first year students of color, international students, and Miami Access scholars in order to prepare them for life at Miami. The program begins several days before the rest of the first-years arrive, allowing students to build relationships, learn about campus resources, and develop a stronger sense of self. MADE is organized around four values that matter to the Miami community: Mentoring, Achievement, Diversity, and Excellence. Along these lines, we endeavor to send two important messages: You belong here at Miami, and We are here for you.
 
MADE@Miami will take place from Tuesday, August 23rd to Thursday, August 25th 2016

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must be current Miami undergraduate students in good standing, enrolled in classes for Fall 2016, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Upon applying for this position, you give authorization to have your academic and judicial standings checked. If you have concerns about these qualifications, or feel that your GPA and/or record does not reflect your ability, please contact Yvania Garcia-Pusateri.

Compensation
  • Hourly wage of $8.10 for roughly 25 hours of work.
  • Meal allowance for August 22nd - 25th
  • Residence hall fees paid for the duration of MADE, if needed.

Application Process
  • Applicants must upload their cover letter and resume as well as fill out 2 supplemental questions
  • Your cover letter should outline your interest in serving as Peer Leader, your leadership background and skills you bring to the program 

All applications must be submitted by Friday, February 26th @ 5pm. 

After review, applicants will be asked to participate in a Group Interview Process as well as Individual Interviews.

Diversity Week: The Lavatus Powell
 Diversity Awards Banquet
As part of the annual Diversity Week celebration, The Diversity Affairs Council hosts the Lavatus V. Powell Diversity Awards Banquet. Each year, students, staff, faculty and student organizations win the "Outstanding Diversity Award" in their category.

This year's banquet will be held Friday, March 11th @ 7pm in Pavilion C of the Armstrong Student Center.

The Lavatus Powell Diversity Awards Banquet was established to recognize students, staff and faculty who have dedicated their endeavors to uplifting the diverse communities on campus and changing the institutional climate. The banquet also celebrates the life of Lavatus V. Powell who was a former Vice President at Procter & Gamble and community leader. He was also the husband of Dr. Myrtis W. Powell, former Vice President of Student Affairs at Miami University.

There will be 4 categories this year - make sure to send in your nomination. 

Nominations will close Monday, February 15th @ 11pm, and w inners will be announced at the banquet. Click on any link below to make award nominations.
