Preparing for the Summer Months
As you prepare to leave for Summer Break, take a few moments to be sure your house is secure.  Often, problems that occur through theft or damage can be averted by precautions taken in closing. Here are some tips.

For your residence:
  • Lock doors and windows; remove all personal valuables from the property
  • Turn off the water and natural gas supply if the house will be left unoccupied
  • Empty all garbage and ensure no combustible items such as trash and paper are left in any public area
  • Visit the Oxford Police Department's website and fill out a vacant house check form
For fraternity houses:
  • Unplug lamps, televisions, and other appliances in public areas as well as in individual rooms in fraternity houses
  • Leave a key with a local member, alumni, or friend who will remain in Oxford; have them periodically check the property during the summer break; notify the Oxford Police and this office with the name of that person in case of a problem
  • Have a certified professional inspect your furnace; he or she should check for proper operation, automatic shut-off valves, and proper venting
  • Remove all combustibles such as paint and spray cans from the furnace area and store in a cool, dry place
Closing Your Suite:
  • Chapters are individually responsible for closing their suite
  • Suites must be closed, cleaned, and locked by 6 pm on Friday, May 13
  • Remove all perishable items from the kitchen and refrigerator
  • Dispose of trash and clean all dishes
  • Unplug all lamps, televisions, and other appliances including the refrigerator and soft drink machine
  • Close and lock all windows and doors
End of the Year Check List
for Fraternity and Sorority Operations
As the academic year draws to a close please remember to take care of any final administrative tasks. Here's a list of things to review:
  • Chapters may now register for the 2016-2017 school year. Please visit your chapter's Hub page and click on the blue Register button to complete registration.
  • The Cliff Office is currently collecting Summer Information. Please visit this LINK to provide information on mail forwarding and sorority suite access.
  • All chapter presidents need to meet with Elissa to review the chapter roster before the end of the semester. This meeting is a requirement of the Community Advancement Program. If you have not scheduled a meeting, please do so as soon as possible.
  • Sororities, please be aware that some chapter mail is delivered to residence hall mail rooms during the school year. Often this mail is never distributed and ends up forwarded in bulk back to the Cliff Office each May. Please make an effort to check with the Resident Director in your chapter's residence hall to ensure all mail has been picked up.
  • All chapters should check the chapter mailboxes in 2020 Armstrong, the Leadership Library. These mailboxes are located outside the Tri-Council Office. Any items not retrieved before the end of term will be discarded during the summer.
