School is coming to a close, and SUMMER is just around the corner! What will your kids be doing? 40 million kids nationally are left unsupervised during the summer months- a major cause of summer learning loss and behavioral issues. Boys & Girls Clubs provides top notch Summer Enrichment Programs to make top notch kids, who are school-ready for the Fall. In addition to programs at our 4 main Clubs, we offer a 180 acre-summer camp in Northern Harford County called Camp Hidden Valley.  Transportation to the campgrounds is free!

DO YOUR KIDS WANT A TRUE SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE?

CAMP HIDDEN VALLEY IS ALMOST FILLED
LESS THAN 100 SPOTS REMAIN!

Building on last year's success, Camp Hidden Valley (CHV) in White Hall is accepting registrations for its full schedule of summer day camp starting on June 27th. In response to requests from parents and caregivers, free transportation to and from the camp will be provided from nine locations throughout Harford County. Open to ages 6-13, CHV will present six weeklong sessions focused on different learning themes such as Film-making, STEM, and Farmstead. A FREE Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is available for youth ages 14-18.

"The mission of the camp is to give kids an active, healthy and enriching summer; all while they learn, explore new interests, meet new friends, and undertake new adventures", said Dwayne Noe, Camp Director.

During the summer months, many children experience a lull in learning and physical activity. "Attending Camp Hidden Valley summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids to unplug from their technological distractions and keep their minds and bodies active," said Phil Crocker, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, which manages the facility and its programs.

Located on 180 beautiful acres along the Deer Creek in White Hall, Camp Hidden Valley will operate Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the following six weeklong sessions:

June 27 - July 1: Farmstead
July 5 - July 8: STEM
July 11 - July 15: A Flight to New Heights
July 18 - July 22: Fantasy Film-Making
July 25 - July 29: Hidden Valley Olympics
August 1 - August 5 - Mad Scientists   SOLD OUT

Harford County Cultural Arts Board Supports
Club Music Studios

Boys & Girls Club's 2016, mascot, Lizzie Bear, found her way to the 2016 Arts Gathering and into the loving arms of the Harford County Cultural Arts Board for their support of R.Y.M.E. (Reaching Youth through Media & Entertainment), which established professional level music studios at our Aberdeen and Edgewood Boys & Girls Clubs.  Thanks to HCCAB, Club kids are trained to use the equipment by music professionals and then can explore their talents and produces their very own rhymes!

Have you seen our viral music video?!  It wouldn't have been possible without the ongoing support of the Harford County Cultural Arts Board.  Check it out below!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County
Appoints Three
New Directors to Board

Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County is pleased to announce the appointment of John Goodin of Harford Mutual, Paul Majewski of Chesapeak Shredding, and Lorrie Schenning of Harford Bank, as the three newest members to its Board of Directors. "With our 25th Anniversary behind us, we are ecstatic about the support and momentum that has built up over the last year and feel that these three individuals will be great allies in strengthening our position in the community," says Jeff Foulk, Immediate Past President for the Clubs. "Our Clubs served over 6,000 youth in Harford County last year, so it's essential we add members to our Board with the reach and expertise to grow our resources," adds Phil Crocker, current Board President.

Highly accomplished in his field, John Goodin has held several leadership roles during his 7 year tenure at Harford Mutual, most recently being named the Senior Vice President of Commercial Business Services. John, who is active in the local community and currently resides in Havre de Grace with his wife, Janine, has been a Boys & Girls Club supporter for several years. His volunteerism at the Aberdeen Boys & Girls Club includes assisting with Thanksgiving dinners, Baseball games, and Wiffle Ball tournaments.

Paul Majewski, Owner of Chesapeak Shredding, is a Maryland native, currently residing in Forest Hill with his wife, Brittany, and their five children. Paul is involved with the Aberdeen Rotary and sits on the Harford Community College Foundation Board. In addition to donating his shredding services to the Club, over the last several years, Paul has volunteered by raising funds for the Kiss-a-Pig contest and has been a helping hand at pancake breakfasts, the Haunted Trail, open houses, and even helped to start a new fundraiser called Backpacks, Burgers, and Brews with the Harford Roundtable Group. Paul is enjoying the current projects he is helping with, getting signs built and placed for the BCG summer camp and jump-starting the Passport to Manhood program.

Currently the Senior Vice President at Harford Bank, Lorrie Schenning, brings a wealth of non-profit experience to the Clubs. Lorrie is a Past President and member of Chesapeake Professional Women's Network, Board Member of Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding, Board Member and Treasurer of Harford Day School, member of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce, member of the President's Council and the Black Gold Committee of John Carroll School, and a member of the Women's Giving Circle of Harford County.

All will be welcome additions to our Board of Directors.

We Remember: George Englesson

If you ever stopped to wonder if one person can truly make a difference, then you may never have met Mr. George Englesson. It is with heavy hearts that we received the news of the passing of our founding father, Mr. George.

In 1988, Mr. George was serving as Mayor of Aberdeen, but was better known around town as the owner of the Ideal Diner. Growing up during the Great Depression, many of his friends found their home away from home at the local Boy's Club in his hometown of Bethlehem, PA.  As a boy, he worked for his family restaurant and could never attend himself, but saw the difference and impact the Clubs left on his close circle of friends.

Mr. George was part of a small group of individuals that recognized the need for an after-school program in Aberdeen, that would be a haven from the streets, and a resource for local children and families. By 1989, 40 Club kids were meeting in the basement of Grove Presbyterian Church. Today, there are 5 Clubs throughout the County for local youth, a community swimming pool, and a 180 acre campground.

Without his vision for Aberdeen and for the county, we would not have had the opportunity to effect change for nearly 40,000 kids over the last 25 years. We are a part of this great man's legacy, which included founding the Higher Education and Applied Technology (HEAT) Center, the Army Alliance, the Northeast Maryland Technology Council (NMTC), the Aberdeen Economic Development Commission and Citizens for a Better Aberdeen. In light of all of his accomplishments, he was especially proud of us, and was always excited to hear updates and stories about our kids. Thank you, Mr. George.
