SPECIAL YOUTH OF THE MONTH
BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
OF HARFORD COUNTY
Youth of the Month
**Sean the Bear**
Sean the Bear was going down a scary path in his young life, until he found his place at Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County. With little entertainment, and no parental supervision after-school, Sean fell into some bad habits, loitering on street corners, hanging out in the park by himself, he even got picked up by the Aberdeen Police for loitering.
|
Sean the Bear hit rock bottom after getting picked up for loitering by local police.
|
Something had to be done! Sean came to the Boys & Girls Clubs to help him get on a better path. For just $20, Sean joined the local Boys & Girls Club, and discovered that he had loads of untapped potential. Sean the Bear is now our official Club Ambassador!
Sean's big debut was at our 25th Anniversary Steak & Burger Dinner, where he motivated lots of caring people to pledge $84 dollars a month to sponsor kids like him to come to a Boys & Girls Club. The crowd showered Sean with support, and now he just loves being a Club Ambassador! In fact, you might start to see him all around Harford County promoting our Clubs and supporters.
"Boys & Girls Clubs helped me find a place to go after school where I could play and learn with my friends. I love the Clubs, and I want to be there everyday. This will be my first summer with Boys & Girls Clubs, and I am so excited. I hope we can raise enough support and awareness that we can keep the Clubs open forever and ever!"

I wonder what owls eat?
Club members in Aberdeen were able to answer that question-not by looking on the internet but by dissecting an owl pellet to determine what prey an owl had eaten before regurgitating a furry, oval mass of undigested body parts. Sounds kind of gross, but it was very interesting for them to find feathers, bills, claws, teeth, skulls and bones of the prey animals. Mr. Andrew always has some excitement up his sleeve at the STEM Center!

Jailbirds Released!
If you stopped by Looney's Pub in Bel Air on April 29th, you would have found Bel Air Interim Police Chief Jack Meckley holding bail hearings for many of our local community members.
All of the jailbirds on lock-down that evening were released on "bail money" raised to send our youth to camp this summer! As a result, $20,000 was raised for our campership program. Thanks to all our participants/jailbirds!
If you are interested in sponsoring a kid (or several
kids) for summer camp or our Summer Enrichment Program, please contact Ashira Quabili at
410-272-0010 ext.13 to inquire about our Camperships!

You can print that?
Club members from our i3STEM program toured One Source Integrated Solutions to learn more about how industries are using 3D printing and what future careers in additive technology might look like. Many thanks to Mr. Joe Dicara for hosting the tour and to Mr. Larry Allulis for showing us some of the incredible items they have printed. There is so much innovation going on that it is hard to know what future jobs are out there--but we know for certain that 3D printing will be a part of Great Futures for many of our kids!
