Like most teenagers, Dacia Gramlick had a group of select friends she'd like to hang out with at school. But this quickly changed after attending the Alberta Community and Co-operative Association's (ACCA)  youth leadership program.

Sixteen-year-old Dacia says taking part in the summer leadership course and getting to know all of the other participants from across Alberta and beyond changed her perspective on making friends. As a result, she learned she can make friends with just about anyone.

Youth Program Ad

Summer camp is a time for making new friends and is the place where youth discover their hidden talents. Those who have attend the ACCA Co-operative Youth Leadership Program, (now going into their 54nd year), will tell you that it was one of their most memorable and life-changing experiences. ACCA holds its annual youth program at Goldeye Centre near Nordegg, AB. The program aims to develop leadership skills and self confidence in youth so they can return to their communities and get involved. Every summer, youth learn how to work in committees, elect and form their own government and learn how to set up and run a co-operative business. They also develop communication skills and expand their knowledge of the agricultural industry and the benefits of membership in a co-operative.
