CJL's E-Newsletter

CJL's Mission
The Coalition for Jewish Learning, the education department of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, promotes and advances Jewish education in the greater Milwaukee community, provides a support system for the community's institutions of Jewish learning, and forges coalitions to ensure excellence in Jewish education.

Poland Presentation
Come hear all thirteen participants in the Milwaukee Jewish Educators' Trip to Poland. We will share our experiences, present a slideshow, and answer questions. Dessert will be served (dietary laws observed).

When: January 17, 2016 from 7-8:30 pm
Where: The Harry and Rose Samson Family JCC, Community Hall

Salute to Jewish Educators
Sunday, March 6, 2016,  3:30-5 p.m. 
at the Rubinstein Pavilion at Chai Point

We invite the entire community to honor local Jewish educators for their commitment to providing our youth with a quality Jewish education.  Please nominate people for the following awards (nominations due no later than January 8, 2016):

A way for our community to recognize superb Jewish educators. This award enables our community to show gratitude for all the time, effort, and care our best educators give to their students.
 

An award for excellence i n Gemilut Chasadim  (acts of loving kindness) projects
For informal education (youth group adviser, camp counselor, or another Jewish educator who  works outside the classroom environment)


for a creative teaching unit or curriculum


   
CJL has just printed a   New Brochure. Read it to find out more about what CJL does for the community.
 
The CJL website is new and improved. On the website you will find links to formal and informal educational programs, Creativity Center materials, Holiday information, and much much more.

What would you like us to add? Please give us input about additions to the website.

CSI - Milwaukee is CJL's Congregational School Initiative. The program includes classes for teachers, seminars for educational directors, grants, school assessments, curriculum writing, and consultation.

CSI-Milwaukee is a partnership between the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the Synagogue Educators Council, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and Congregations Beth Israel Ner Tamid, Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun, Emanu-El of Waukesha, Shalom, and Sinai.  

All Classes held at  the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center unless noted otherwise.

January 13, 6:30-9:30 pm  אל תקראי בניך אלא בוניך
Read it not as "your children" but as "that which you build."  Teaching Our Children using the Love and Logic ­­method with Trudy Sirkis.

February 14, 9 am- 12 pm (8:30 am registration) Citywide Teacher In-Service
Join with teachers from throughout Milwaukee for a day of learning and inspiration. The program will be planned by members of the Synagogue Educators' Council (SEC).

March 13, 2-5 pm Text Me
A covenant Grant Award winning program that uses Jewish texts to explore the moral implications of texting and other social media. Taught by Rabbi Jeffrey Schein from Minneapolis.

April 11, 6:30-9:30 pm : והגדת לבנך ביום ההוא  
"Teach it to your children on that day . . .Why is this Night Different from All Other Nights?" A text study about Pesach followed by a hands on workshop to prepare teaching materials for your class. This workshop will be held at Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid.

 
Educators develop a professional growth plan based on a self-assessment of their own strengths and weaknesses.  CJL grants financial assistance to help educators carry out their professional growth plans.  


This August, the New CAJE conference will take place in the Chicago area July 31-August 3. This is a fabulous conference for educators. Sign up now for the TRIP program to be eligible for funding for the conference.

The Coalition for Jewish Learning is part of the Create a Jewish Legacy Program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.  

Create a Jewish Legacy is a program that helps individuals and families create legacy gifts, providing a permanent source of support for the Jewish causes they care about.  The program is founded on the principle that all of us, regardless of age, wealth or affiliation, can make an enduring financial impact.
