Thanks to everyone involved in taskforce activity during month of July! Please send your special thanks to Cobb County Commissioners for passing social host/teen party ordinance on July 24! 

 

Activity highlights are listed below.  

   

  • Held taskforce meetings; Education Team, Youth Team, Board meeting
  • Participated in; DBHDD Community Prevention Alliance Workgroup meeting, statewide alcohol policy work group meeting, CADCA mid-year training institute, 2 Cobb Commissioner's public hearings on proposed ordinance amendments
  • Raffle drawing; raised $2570 and presented ipad to 1 lucky winner 
  • Social media presence; lots of postings on Facebook and Twitter

    AUGUST PARTNER HIGHLIGHT: EDUCATION

       

    Our Education partners play a vital role in helping to realize our vision and mission, including: 1) Provide students with developmentally appropriate knowledge, skills, and motivation to resist peer and other pressures to drink, 2) Establish, enforce and evaluate effective campus alcohol policies, 3) Provide information to students and families on the consequences of alcohol use, campus alcohol policies and practices, and local sources for more information.

    Taskforce Happenings 

      

    Cobb Board of Commissioners unanimously passed social host/teen party ordinance - this has been a taskforce policy goal realized and is cause for celebration! Check out details here. Thanks to everyone who helped by signing resolutions, contacting Commissioners, and making public comments at hearings - there's too many of you to list here, but you know who you are!

     

    Raffle New 4G 32GB IPad - Congratulations to Joyce Billig, winner of our raffle, ticket sold by Amy Hoffman! Thanks to all who sold and/or purchased tickets - $2,570 was raised.

    CADCA Mid-year Training Institute - Cathy Finck, Amy Hoffman, Jeff Inman, Jeff Rose, Laura Searcy, and Cathy Wendholt-McDade went to Nashville, TN to attend Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America Mid-year Training and were among 1,800 participants. Team learned ALOT and will be presenting highlights of lessons learned at 8/21/12 CAT bi-monthly meeting.  

    Amy Hoffman, Youth Council Manager for CAT, was accepted as a CADCA Ambassador. This is a prestigious honor and she will be joining 17 other leaders chosen from across the country. Congratulations, Amy!

    Community Survey will be open during month of September - Will be looking for help to collect responses from 2,000+ Cobb citizens. Check back at www.cobbat.org - link to survey will be posted soon.

    National Electronic Seminar: Managing Alcohol Outlet Density to Reduce Youth Access to Alcohol - Research has shown a strong correlational relationship between alcohol and violent crime.
