About Jennifer

Jennifer Chenoweth
Visual artist Jennifer Chenoweth is from Austin, Texas. She was selected through an open call to international artists to apply to be a part of a new community art project through the Office of Public Art in Pittsburgh that embeds artists within communities. Selected to work in and with Wilkinsburg, she brings her active studio art and social practice to our community.

She is most excited about discovering the people and architecture of Wilkinsburg. Her project, "Come Over, Come Eat, Come Play" includes a variety of free community events from artist talks, to domino games, to  to community dances that allow us a chance to play and enjoy our Borough.

She wants to explore the historic public and church architecture of Wilkinsburg, and make drawings and artworks to share with the community. She is interested in visiting and documenting buildings and finding original floorplans and elevations from which to make studies.

Similar past projects include "You Are Here," a solo exhibition at the Wright Gallery in Texas, which included anthropomorphized drawings of Etruscan, Roman, and Christian buildings and sculptures that explore the geometry and scale. She has been specifically studying the spatial proportions of sacred spaces since 1997, in order to create more visceral artworks.

Through our Business Image Improvement Fund, we have had the opportunity to work with Monique to enhance the appearance of her storefront through signage and promote her salon through our small business marketing efforts.

Check out Monique's story in the New Pittsburgh Courier:

As long as Monique Clark Muhammad can remember, she has dreamed of owning and operating her own beauty salon. In December 2011, those dreams came true and on Dec. 17, she, along with her clients, family and close friends, celebrated the fifth-year anniversary of Heavenly Hair and Body Salon LLC...

"Heavenly Hair and Body Salon is more than a business-it's a ministry of service, offering a life changing experience. It's a place for the entire family. We do not just offer high quality and affordable prices. We offer an experience for each individual customer," said Muhammad...  Read More
