A Note From DCE Mark
[Jesus] found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."   - John 1:43-46
It is a special honor to be the one to share some really good news.  On Facebook and YouTube you can find countless examples of this.  Families often share videos capturing that moment that are viewed by hundreds or thousands or even millions of people.  You can see soldiers coming home early, a new baby announcement, and many more moments of someone surprised by some good news.  One called Soldiers Coming Home has over 7 million views.  It is fun to watch their surprise, disbelief, and dawning realization of the truth, to the obvious delight of family members who get to be there to share in this moment.  Once you start watching a few of these it is sort of addicting.
I always liked reading this part of John where Jesus calls His disciples, in particular the brother disciples.  It was the best good news ever to be shared ...continue reading

Fear Anxiety and Wellness: Journey to a Heart at Peace
Join us January 28 and February 4 at 9:30 to learn a simple, powerful way to help those who experience fear in their lives. We'll be studying the book Fear Anxiety and Wellness: Journey to a Heart at Peace written by Dr. John Eckrich, M.D, founder of Grace Place Wellness Ministries. This book draws on both the professional and personal experience of a physician who has traveled that same fear filled journey. He offers powerful and practical guidance from a medical, behavioral, and most important, a Christ-directed perspective to help you on the journey to a heart at peace. To pick up a book before the class starts see Nanette Dost, Jane Cauchon, or Judith Meyer.

Book Drive- Mother's Day Out
We received a Thrivent Action Team grant aimed at upgrading our book collection for our Mother's Day Out program.  If your child received too many books or duplicates at Christmas, consider donating for our MDO.  We are looking specifically for Jesus books and those which share about Christian/Bible teachings.  MDO is part of our overall Christian Education ministry at Timothy, and that includes chapel attendance and books that interest and teach this age range.   Books should be new or in like-new condition, sturdy and appropriate for ages 4 and under.   Contact DCE Mark or Cheryl O'Neil for more information on books needed.  Thanks for your support!

Rummage Sale. Saturday, March 24th. "One Person's Junk is Another Person's Treasure."

Ladies' Bible Study
will meet Tuesday, January 16, 1:00 at Shirley Jeude. We will discuss pages 65-78. See you there.

Adult Instruction Class
We will soon be starting up another adult instruction class.  The classes will take place on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.  Please let Pastor Bill know if you would like to attend.

Mission Trip to Gambia
Pastor Loum is going on a Medical Trip to Gambia in March, and is inviting interested members of the congregation to go along.  For more information please see Pastor Loum.

Gambia Mission
Some remote congregations in Gambia have been unable to hear the Word of God because the evangelists have been unable to travel to worship with them.  Support for this ministry would be $100.00/month.  If you should wish to help support this important ministry, mark your gift to Timothy with the word "Gambia".  Pastor John Loum.

STEWARDSHIP
Share Your Gifts-Egg Hunt Leadership Needed
Our annual Egg Hunt outreach is an important annual event for our children and young families.  It is a great opportunity for our church to serve our neighbors and be visible in our community.  We need a leader or team of leaders to help make this day special.  Please talk to DCE Mark Thompson if you are interested and/or have questions.  The date for EGG HUNT 2018 is March 24.

FOOD PANTRY APPEAL
This cold weather has hit a lot of families.  Our food pantry has distributed food to a lot of individuals this past month.  Therefore, the pantry has been hard hit, and our 'cupboards' are almost bare.  We are in dire need of a number of items including canned fruit, canned chili, canned spaghetti sauce, toilet paper, canned tuna and chicken, soups, and many other items.  Please consider purchasing some of these items and placing them in the box in the Narthex of the church.  Our food pantry is open the first and third Thursdays of each month.  Thanks.  The Pantry Committee.
COUNCIL NEWS
News from the Council

1. Council voted to help support Rev. John Loum on his Gambia projects.  He stated the country of Gambia is heavily Muslim, however the Lutheran Church has been in existence there for 50 years.  One of the Lutheran churches he is closely associated has not held services for the past 3 years.  This church is in need of monetary assistance for the travel of evangelists.  The second ministry Council agreed to help out financially is St. Martha, a Christian group providing assistance, giving hope for girls and young women sold into slavery and prostitution. The girls will be trained to be productive in domestic skills such as sewing.  Council approved a donation of up to $2,000 from the mission outreach designated account but hopes that members will also contribute to Gambia ministry.

2. Election of Council officers was held to serve in 2018.  They include Judith Meyer, President; Greg Poppitz, Vice President, Carla Hagan, Secretary.  Appointed Marjorie Schmeerbauch, Treasurer and Jennifer Petrus, Financial Secretary.  Please pray for your officers as they seek to guide and lead Timothy Lutheran Church into the new year.

3. Council approved a policy concerning minors alone on church property.  Timothy was informed by our insurance company the need to have a policy directed at the protection of minors, the "Minors and Volunteer Safety Policy".

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School Notes for week of January 14
Lesson 7 Bible Story - Dorcas - Acts 10
This Sunday School lesson teaches children the story of Peter and Cornelius (Acts 10) and how the Good News comes to us as it did to them. Talk about how in church we receive the Good News that, although we are judged unrighteous and deserving of death, God mercifully declares us holy, righteous, and innocent because of Christ. "What does this mean for our daily lives?" is a good question to discuss as a family.
Memory Verse: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13
