*Caring for our artifacts is one of the most important things we do so we know you will understand if the weather prevents us from taking them outside. But who knows? We might get our more snow worthy things out to show off.

See you there!  Keep on learning... every day!

Ain't it a beaut!

We've gotten a lot of snow this past month but don't
worry - WAAAM will be open whatever the weather
so if anyone is getting cabin fever they can come visit us
and see some of the great updates to the collection.

Check out this awesome video of one of WAAAM's
newsest donations, a 1919 Scripps-Booth, up and running: https://www.facebook.com/WAAAMuseum/v

Another new donation we are extra excited about is
WAAAM's newly donated 1926 Model T Ford Snowmobile -
(see the picture above) some of our volunteers wish they had
one to get around in the snow right now!
We've got a little bit of work on it before it
can tackle any snowdrifts, but it's on display for all to see
and admire.

WAAAM's kids room is
back up and running!

After just 2 weeks,  WAAAM's kids room
is back up and running better than ever.
Our awesome volunteers jumped right in
and with some TLC, completely renovated the kids space, and making some important updates to the learning tools (like the submarine and the airplane).

To tie the bow on our new space we're looking for a fun new name for the area.

WAAAM Car Guys* "Monthly Smoke Signals"!  January 2017
*used in plural to refer to the members of a group regardless of sex
<saw her and the rest of the guys>
December has been a very busy month in spite of all  the snow.
Andy Anderson, Steve Roberts, Brian Brandt and Dale Nicol made a "mad dash, vehicle donation pick up" on December 17 to Moses Lake, WA. It was a 500 mile round trip and we brought back a very rare 1919 Scripps Booth touring car and a very special, 1926 Model-T Snow-Cat. Both vehicles are on display in M2 for everyone to see. It was well worth the trip and we dodged a bullet weather wise, as the recovery had been postponed twice due to inclement weather.
December second Saturday car rides were cancelled due to snow and just crummy weather. We did have volunteers located in our car restoration area in M3, to show and explain how the Willis, Velie and Detroit Electric are being restored.
Thanks to Robert Smithwick, Cal Cargill and Gene Wright for making more progress restoring these vehicles. Robb Harding gets a special shout out for his persistence in working on the brakes of the Ford pickup in M3!
We have been making progress in our new car garage and a big thanks to Rick Kemper for sheet rocking the body work and wood work area. I think Steve Roberts has almost recovered from screwing the sheetrock to the ceiling. That's a hard job on the old shoulder and neck!
The Car Guys garage  needs a small, 220 volt portable electric heater, a tire balancing machine and a brake lathe. Any monetary donations are greatly appreciated too!
Thanks to Brian Brandt for his donation of the vehicle lift!!
When weather permits, we will pick up a 1907 Everybody's runabout. This will be the oldest car that WAAAM will have on display, once received. It's so rare, photos are hard to come by.
We are looking forward to the New Year at WAAAM as it celebrates the 10th anniversary!
The Car Guys are actively seeking additional volunteers to join our team. We have the need for volunteers who can do basic auto maintenance, upholstery, wood body or metal body repair, fabrication, electrical, mechanical and grant writing. Additionally, we need car ride drivers for all Second Saturday events, parades, cruise boat guests and special events. Finally, WAAAM car ride hosts to load/unload people.
We hope you are interested in becoming a WAAAM Car Guy Volunteer, so please contact Stephanie Hatch at [email protected]

Welcome  to 2017!

This year will mark our
10 Year Anniversary!

And...
we're planning to celebrate, so
keep your ear to the ground for
all the fun stuff we have planned.

I t has been an incredible decade
for us so far and we are so
pleased  to go into this new year stronger than ever before.

None of it would be possible without the fantastic support of
our wonderful volunteers,
donors, and members.

We couldn't do what we do
without you all!

Thank you all,
Stephanie

Congratulations to Dale Nicol! He's WAAAM's 2016 Volunteer of the Year.

"Dale is always willing to jump in and lend a hand," says Museum Director Judy Newman. "He puts in an incredible amount of time not just helping with our automobiles and coordinating amongst our car crew but also as backup for any other number of projects we've got going on including the never-ending dusting battle. Whenever we need all hands on deck he is already right there in the thick of it. He is a great asset and we are very glad to have him."

Number 7 in Oregon's Top
Fan-Favorite Destinations

Thanks in part to WAAAM's dynamite volunteers we received
the #7 slot in Oregon's Top 100
Fan-Favorite Destinations contest.

WAAAM went up against nearly 9,000 destinations and was ranked based on third party reviews from sites such as TripAdvisor and Yelp.

"We couldn't be more pleased
with the results," says Museum Director Judy Newman. "WAAAM's wonderful volunteers really make our vast airplane and automobile collection stand out
for visitors from all over the
world.

"The Columbia River Gorge was well represented in the contest
with Hood River's WAAAM ranking the highest in the region
and 7th in the overall contest.

"This last year of 2016 will go
down as the year of the new M1South building and the year
that we had over 22,150 volunteer hours.  That fact of that many
hours shows just how dedicated these WAAAM volunteers are to this museum.  How do we thank you, except ' THANK YOU very much!'

"This year, our volunteer of the
year is Dale Nicol who has put
in countless hours, time & money. Dale, you are amazing.

"Also, the big project this last
week by Dale Nicol, Steve
Roberts & Gary (Fish)Fisher has been the Kids Room.  They have
put in hours & hours redoing, painting, cleaning and rebuilding projects.

"We are are looking forward to
2017 and the snow/ice to go
away.   I think it is going to be a good year."
