Prayer and Dismissal

Weekly Devotional
"Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water," Daniel said. "At the end of the ten days, see how we look compared to the other young men who are eating the king's food. Then make your decision in light of what you see." The attendant agreed to Daniel's suggestion and tested them for ten days.
At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others. Daniel 1:12-16, NLT
In light of Sunday's opportunity to fast, I'll admit that I'm no fasting expert. I don't even like to fast! But fasting has been a revolutionary part of my life for over 10 years and has helped draw me closer to God and experience incredible breakthroughs.

You may have never fasted before. That's OK. I hadn't really connected with fasting either, with a fast here, a fast there--and no spiritual renewal anywhere. That changed just over 10 years ago.

It was nothing short of amazing! My family has participated in a fast each year since, and every year it has helped us feel renewed spiritually, connect with God, and see incredible breakthroughs.

I can't promise you will have the exact same experience. But I will tell you this: no one I know who has participated in the fast and connected with God on a deeper level hasn't seen something positive in their lives. Denying yourself, connecting to God, praying, reading your Scripture, and applying what you are learning and what God is saying will always bear positive fruit!

Today's reading introduces Daniel, the original Daniel faster. Daniel and the other leading young people of Israel were taken captive to Babylon when they were only teenagers. How do you think you would handle being taken far from your home, your family, and your value system and indoctrinated into the foreign culture of the most exciting, sophisticated--and ungodly--country in the world?

I don't know how I would've done, but Daniel and his friends were HUNGRIER FOR GOD than they were for the "choice foods" on the king's table. They chose to reject the bounties of Babylon to instead receive the blessings of God.

We can choose this, too. When we do, we will see God's transformation process at work, producing things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control in us.

I'm looking forward to participating in Sunday's fast while growing and seeking God together!
This Sunday!

What Is Fasting?

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is taught in the Bible. Jesus expected His followers to fast, and He said that God rewards fasting. Fasting, according to the Bible, means to voluntarily reduce or eliminate your intake of food for a specific time and purpose.
We'll be fasting and praying together for the future of our church family this Sunday.
If you choose to participate, you can select from three types of fasting - a Full Fast, a Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.
*The Daniel Fast - Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables.

*Partial Fast - A partial fast is from sunup to sundown.

Preparing For A Miracle

We are called to sacrifice, pray, and prepare for our home.  We believe that we have witnessed the miraculous provision of God along our journey and we look forward to seeing how God will, once again, provide a miracle for our future home.

We plan to collect our pledge cards on Sunday, March 18th. We are looking for 100% participation from our church family.  We hope that you'll help us get one step closer to a future home.

Current Series: Miracles

How strong is your faith? Is it strong enough to move mountains? God calls us to fully rely on Him. To trust God in all that we do and all that we go through. Is nothing impossible when it comes to God?
This series is meant to take your faith deeper than just surface level. What is causing us to lack faith? Do we find comfort in our career, family, or finances? Do we truly believe that God is in complete control? And do we relinquish that control and trust God to take care of us? Miracles happened all throughout Scripture. Are miracles happening now around us?
This series is a great opportunity to see a miracle take shape as we consider how to be generous in building God's kingdom on earth.

Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. As recorded in the Gospels, on His last night before His betrayal and arrest, Jesus shared the Lord's Supper. Christians therefore keep this night with celebrations at the Lord's Table (Holy Communion).
This service will be held on Thursday, March 29th, at The Ridge Office Complex (5624B Whitesville Road). Since space is limited, registration is required. Each service will last no longer than thirty minutes.

Childcare will be provided.

Are you interested in being a part of a serving team on Sunday mornings? Here are some of the ways to get plugged in:
*Safety Team.  This team offers a watchful and helpful presence during the worship hour.
*Greeters.  The Greeters Team are the warm hearts and big smiles of The Ridge Church.  Without them, there would be no Golden Donuts, no one telling you good morning and no coffee!
*Parking Lot Party.  The Parking Lot Party has the special task of making sure people find the way to the worship area.  This includes putting out directional signs and welcoming our members and visitors.
*RidgeRunners.  At The Ridge, we have one of the best kids' environments around.  Children of all ages learn about Jesus in a way that is relevant, biblical and engaging.
*Student Ministry.  We do student ministry a bit differently at The Ridge. We have monthly gatherings, monthly worship (3rd Night) and weekly small groups that meet in restaurants across Columbus before school starts.
*Worship.  The worship team is both on stage and offstage.  Everything you see happen on Sunday morning is made possible by this amazing team. Opportunities range from singing to running the lights.
*Setup/Teardown Team.   This team is the hands and feet of Christ.  No expert skills needed, just the heart of service that comes from a heart of worship.
Email us and let us know if you're interested in being on one of these amazing teams: info@theridgecolumbus.com.
