Our Dallas County Health and Human Services Department informs us on what we need to do as individuals and as a community to manage challenges to our health.
Park Cities/Central Dallas Democrats are delighted to announce that our October 7 meeting will feature not one, but two terrific speakers from Dallas County Health and Human Services: Zachary Thompson, Director, and Christopher Perkins, Medical Director.
There may never have been a more challenging time for the two leaders. We are still vulnerable to West Nile virus (ca. 2012), Ebola (2014), and Zika (2016), and autumn 2017 brings problems associated with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Not to mention the "usual" issues arising from Dallas County's very high rates of child poverty, homelessness, AIDS, and drug addiction.
What are the challenges associated with each of these issues? Will the hurricane's aftermath bring more flying and creeping critters to Dallas County? Will chemicals released along the coast migrate into our water supplies? Will those seeking refuge after Harvey impact Dallas County's ability to deal with ongoing challenges? And what of the local outbreaks of typhus and K2 drug use recently reported?
These Dallas County experts, Thompson and Perkins, will let us know what we need to do to keep ourselves healthy and to help our community stay healthy.
