May is National Foster Care Month ! At our last board meeting we learned about the mentor program volunteers Greg & Katherine Merideth launched last fall with our Transitional Housing Program for emancipated foster youth. Their program includes helping these clients, many whom don't have a family system to rely on to navigate the challenges of life in work, school and personal relationships. Pictured is Greg Merideth, Niko (THP client), Katherine Merideth and Shahrukh Chishty Sr. Director of Social Services at Aldea. To learn more about Aldea's social service programs click here .
May is Mental Health Month and the 2018 theme is:
Fitness #4Mind4Body.
Learn more here . When we talk about health, we can’t just focus on heart health, or liver health, or brain health, and not whole health. You have to see the whole person, and make use of the tools and resources that benefit minds and bodies together.

The Napa County Suicide Prevention Council is launching their first Anti-Stigma messaging campaign for Mental Health Awareness Month. The goal is to show the community that anyone can be affected by suicide regardless of economic status, age, gender or ethnic background.

3rd Annual
Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference
Key Note Speaker
Kevin Berthia

Kevin Berthia is a grateful suicide survivor and suicide prevention advocate. Kevin was
born with a genetic major depression disorder that he inherited from his biological
mother. In 2005 at the age of 22, Kevin attempted to take his own life by jumping from
the Golden Gate Bridge. After jumping the railing, he stood on a 4 inch narrow cord
about 220 feet in the air. For 96 minutes, with nothing to stop him from falling except a
listening ear, Kevin spoke with a first responder who eventually talked him back over the railing.

Tickets include full day bilingual conference with breakfast and lunch, CEU's(Continuing Education Credits) , a dedicated learning track for medical professionals, art therapy workshop, and learning from experts in their field with proceeds to support Aldea.
